Bush War Ambush
« on: February 17, 2022, 05:44:53 AM »
This game was inspired by an ambush from Seven Firefights in Vietnam, transposed to Africa. I used One Hour Skirmish Wargames to fight it out. The miniatures are repurposed 1/72 Vietnamese from I think Ertl.

An eight man scout team sets up in the scrub along a highly trafficked trail leading to a nearby ville where the terrs have been trying to collect "taxes" from the villagers.

Sergeant Smythe has set out the ambush with flanking security elements and his main kill element to cover the cross road where the trail emerges from the tree line and meets the road.
His northern security element consists of one RPG, one RPK and a claymore covering the northern approach. The eastern flankers one AK, one RPK and a claymore covering eastern approach. The main element consists of three AKs, one trooper with RPK, and a claymore covering the intersection.  The team leader has set the condition of four terrs in the kill zone, or possible discovery by the terrs. He knows where the terrs are coming out but unsure which route they will take to the ville.
The action starts with the terrs point man emerging on the road and heading east.
The terr point man turns and spots something in the scrub and let's loose a bursts from his AK. Trooper Jones blows the claymore and the main element open up on the four man terr team.

Three of them go down in the initial blast and three of the four on the road are taken down by automatic fire.  The rest of the team returns fire into scrub, firing wildly and over the heads of the scouts.  The eastern flankers also fire intobthe rerrs on the road while the northern flankers continue to pull security.
Suddenly the fire from the terrs stops, Sergeant Smythe calls cease fire and directs his main element across the road double tapping any terr left in the kill zone. They advance to the far side and finding no more threat conduct a quick head count. This is when they find that Trpr Jones has sustained a wound to the head. They conduct a search of the immediate area and confirm three KIA terrs, four blood trails, and recover an SKS and one AK indicating a possible body count of seven.

The scouts recover Trpr Jones' body and withdraw the northeast where they are picked up by two choppers.
Back at their base the raise a lager to Trpr Jones.
"welcome to the world of cascading failure"
