The Oscars are different, though- they are a giant advertising campaign. Same with pretty much any awards show that isn't fans' choice, a peer-based award like the Screen Actors' Guild, or awards given by an individual critic or institution (for example, many YouTubers have their own Best of 2xxx awards). And even then, the effect ends up being the same- more advertising.

This is more of a thank-you. I'm sure Mr. Livingstone's contributions have kept many a farmer, nurse, scientist, and other essential workers in better spirits while performing those essential functions. Why not thank him for it?

Were Livingstone running a charity or something similar where he stood to gain very little money or public attention, I'd agree with that sentiment. But Livingstone appears to have significant stakes in several very large publically traded companies. A transaction took place where that farmer or nurse paid a (very large if it was a GW product!) sum of money to Livingstone (by way of those companies) and I rather think under such circumstances no thank you is necessary when both have profited.

That said, I don't hold Sir Ian McKellan's knighthood against him so I can't hold it against Livingstone either. More glory to him.

Not what he received the gong for though is it?
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo
Pede o mundo de novo

Well, I guess that's it, will the downtrodden socialist rabble please exit to the left, the blood-sucking exploiters of the proletariat to the right, and the moderate-centrist bourgeois intelligentsia wonder what that was all about.
