Thanks for all the replies guys. Keep the colloquialisms coming. I'm already intimidated by the geordie accents and knowing a few current phrases might help.

@themightyflip - I'm always up for a game. PM me if you would like to get together for a game. The same goes for anyone on LAF

@marrony - Thats good to hear. I was on the Durham club's website and was somewhat disappointed that they emphasize "big battle" games. I'm a skirmish gamer at heart and can't bear to have more than about 40 figures a side.

While were at it. Do you have any advice for a newcomer to England? Anything to do, see, or not do that would not be immediately obvious to someone who has never stepped off of North America?

Thanks,
-Joe

The best part of  this move is that I will not have to drive.  :D  I was ready to turn in my license when I lived in Pittsburgh.

Learn to like warm beer....?

Nah, we're posh up north, we have those new-fangled re-frig-er-a-tors now.
One good thing about moving to this side of the pond is that you don't have to drink beer that's like sitting in a boat. Close to water.

Right if your coming to the north, you should know the differences.

People from Newcastle are geordies
People from Sunderland are Mackams
People from Hartlepool are chimpchokers

And people from Middlesbrough, or the boro, are SMOGGIES!! and proud by the way.

TheMightyFlip is entirely correct. Very well put. Now things to see? Hadrian's Wall, Holy Island, Durham Light Infantry Museum, Hancock Museum, the Roman Fort at Shields, Durham Cathedral, Hamsterly Forest, Whitby( close by) Laing art gallery. These places for a start. Sure I've missed loads out! Glad to meet another skirmish gamer too HRE Joseph III .  :)

Dorman Museum in Middlesbrough, they had a good exhibition about the 1st world war a while ago.

Things to do..Hmm try fish and chips, avoid hoodies or anyone driving a "hot hatchback" with music louder than an atomic blast pumping out of the speakers.

Avoid Middlesbrough town centre on Saturdays.

Unless you have an interest in prehistory and want to see if Neanderthals could walk upright. N.B. the answer is 'almost'.

The town centre on a night anyhow, its quite safe on a day time.

Some good pubs at the top end, Southfield Road for instance.

As for what people are playing, I dont know, I suppose Warhammer is the safe bet as always.
