Rest for all animals, two-legged and four. I plan on doing a hybrid 3D printed & foam-stone construction to create a farmhouse and barn/stables. Designed to fit on my existing Sellswords & Spellslingers mat.

Cool.

What will the division printed/traditional be? just windows and doors, or full on 50/50 or more printed elements?
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Some inspiration photos.

I am doing a mixture of 3D printing for the frame with foam stones because nobody has done a good old-stone building for 3D printing. They are all too regular

Going to do a 3D printed shell (basically the same way you'd get an MDF kit), then glue stones on that. Then print some windows to put in. If all goes well, not going to see the 3D printed shell at all.

I will be following this with interest; I've recently dipped my toes into the whole 3D printing pool, and it appears to  be nice and comfy, so I'm keen on seeing more...  :)

I own dozens of buildings (a fraction of which I've actually printed) and whilte they are fine, I find them a bit too regular for my tastes. The real world isn't very regular, trying to replicate that with the hand-made element over the designed core

A bit more inspiration, this time a look at Normandy farm houses https://www.christopherlong.co.uk/oth/farmstruct.html

I'm going to do with two or three buildings, not fully sure right now. Likely an open-air (but roofed) stable, with a small closed barn and two-story main house

I especially like the first photograph. I can easily
imagine a skirmish game taking place there.
One side resting (Kings Musketeers, Parliamentarians,
Austrians, Guarde Mobile, Dough Boys, IRA, Panzer
Grenadiers etc.) just before the opposition arrives.
Good luck with the build.

Sounds intriguing ... especially the mix of scratch and 3D. I haven’t got a clue where to start with 3D print ting so I’ll certainly be watching your progress with interest

So now for the layout of the building. I have a 35"x35" (oops!) mat that I did for Sellswords & Spellslingers (a great cooperative fantasy skirmish game) and I want the house+stables to form a walled compound in the middle, with the lollipop of cobblestones inside. So I need to lay out the building in pieces that will fit in that space, likely with the biggest part, the house, headed down that spit of land near the stream.

And to begin!

First up, I took a somewhat-centred-over-my-mat photo (I'm sure the Germans would have a word for that) and then corrected it in the GIMP to be square. I then brought it into FreeCAD and corrected it to 35" by 35"

As an aside, if you're interested in how I did this mat, I have a thread with that on Workbench here

And then I started drawing. I know I want four buildings with some walls in between - the main house, a barn, a stables and a gatehouse. So tossed them onto the mat and then blocked out roughly where I think they should be:

This is obviously very crude. Once I am roughly happy with the size and location of the buildings, I will actually start building them, using the sketches I have done for this initial stage as the floor.
