BSC2022 - Tarnegol - 1 Kings 2:10

'Then David rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David.'

I have for a while been considering building a Biblical burial cave, I now have an excuse, and most importantly, a deadline (no pun intended!)

It will be loosely based on the First Temple era cave complex 2 at St. Étienne’s Monastery, Jerusalem.

Very nifty. Did you plan on keeping the Christian religious symbology or do more generic?

A good while before Christianity - about 8th century BCE, so the religion which became Judaism, but before it was called Judaism. Probably not much symbology at all, that appears to have been reserved for the Temple, at least in Jerusalem.

This burial cave will be part of my 15mm Biblical town ‘Shalomel’, the buildings of which are mostly based on, but not precise models of, various sites which can be found all over the Holy land. All the elements of Shalomel are built on tiles from the Sarissa Precision Terrain Tile System.
This cave is inspired by cave complex 2 at St Étienne Monastery, Jerusalem.

A drawing can be found on page 19 of this document:
https://scholarworks.iu.edu/journals/index.php/sdh/article/download/31691/36950/84161

I have changed it by removing a couple of the burial chambers, and making the rooms bigger than they should be, to allow the model to be useable.
I shall also be building the neighbouring tiles, but they will only be seen here where necessary.
Here is my initial scrawling and the tile with preliminary layout marking. I hope it will become clearer (at least to me) soon. The tile is 200mm square:

Floors added - 3mm greyboard. They will be raised another level in the burial chambers.

Also front wall - 4mm and 3mm mdf. The pilasters are scribed square styrene tube with capitals cast in resin from a master I made from styrene, brass rod and green stuff.

A really interesting concept! Being more of a fantasy gamer than an Ancients one I can't help feeling that this would be great for a "dungeon crawl" style game! I am looking forward to seeing how this ends up.

Bit slow of late, I'm afraid. Partly the weather but mostly the arrival of Alfie, a puppy, who thinks MDF and polystyrene make great things to chew, so I've had to restrict my activities to when my wife isn't at work or the all too brief episodes of sleep, when eyes in unusual anatomical parts are nevertheless required!

So here we are, the front of the four-part cliff face including the burial cave. Now I know it all fits together I'll ignore the rest, except for a coat of paint, until the cave is done. The other cave mouth will eventually end up as a burial place for the lesser folk.

Slow? I'm miles behind!
Well, done, it looks cool 8)
So did you use pre-chewed or standard polystyrene?

Standard polystyrene; the offcuts are a bit chewed, because some fell on the floor. I am also chewed, because I had to remove the offcuts from his mouth. Fortunately he's a Yorkipoo, so small enough to not result in serious harm to either of us!

Thanks to all of you for your complementary, and therefore encouraging, comments.

I'm taking the rest of the day (mostly) off, except for a bit of relevant figure painting, then starting on greenstuff dead people tomorrow and internal walls following that.

Canine co-operation permitting.
