OK, the first batch is ready ... sort of  :). The rest are awaiting a coat of paint.

Nice
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Now, here’s a commanding officer for my condotta. An unconverted exception, Perry's mounted MAA on a GS-augmented ACW horse.

Great to see them coming together!

The officer is particularly good I think - a perfect combination of parts.

As I said on your original thread on the Workbench board, I'm having a go at using the plastic ACW horses myself, inspired by what you're doing here.

I bought two sprues of them from ebay. The horses are unsurprisingly a good size match with the plastic WOTR ones. Four right sides, four left sides, and the heads are not separate. Trying all the different combinations, I've decided there are two EXCELLENT poses I have to use, which will add some much-needed variety to my large cavalry units, or be useful for command stands. All the other pose combinations aren't so essential - either they aren't really that different to ones you can get from the WOTR horses, or they look a little bit odd!
The heads can also be easily sliced off and used on WOTR horses. I tried one the other way, but it doesn't quite look right to my eyes.
All the saddle furnishing and baggage particular to the 19th century can be sliced off with a knife, filed down, and the whole saddle area slathered in poly cement to smooth it out - I will now need to rebuild the saddles with greenstuff, though if I use metal Perry riders on them they have the rear part covered already.
I look forward to getting mine painted and mixed into my ranks of cavalry!

Thanks for the idea!

Hi Charlie,

Yeah, the Condotta project is gradually taking its final shape. To my dismay, have to slow down a bit with the basing as I ran out of flock and fancy tufts  :-[

Indeed, the ACW horse sprues are quite useful, and with imaginative surgery some interesting outcomes can be obtained. I mostly focused on stading/walking/trotting poses.

Oh, and once again thanks for the inspiration with conversions!

Nicely done horse conversions. Its easy to get horses looking wrong, but I think you have nailed it.  :)

Great work. Very inspirational. I was planning on using Perrys for my Venetian Elmeti knights, but sadly Perrys where way to large to be mixed with the Assault Group Elmeti I had bought.

Your conversions have inspired me to look at them again. Maybe for command stands.

Cheers
Erik

You have nailed conversions on the the horses. Very realistic and certainly not an easy task.  8)

Thanks for nice feedback re. horses!

It finally happened  :)
With the flock/tufts crisis resolved, I managed to finalize the first unit.  More on the workbench nearing completion.

That is inspiring work.  I don't really know much about the period.  I am reading Christian Cameron's Chivalry series (set in the 1350s-60s).  Are your Italian's for that period?

Thanks for your comments!
Cannot claim to be an expert, but I aimed at a somewhat generic look hoping to stretch it as late as mid-XV century with different flags added?

The Perry Wars of the Roses/Medieval Mercenaries are all fine from about 1450 to 1500.

Atheling, thanks for the clarification. The condotta then seems OK for Italian Wars, - at least their early stage.
