BSC2022 voltan's houses
« on: January 09, 2022, 03:08:40 PM »
Right I'm in.

You can rest in a house, probably, so that's what I'm doing, erm.. building. A pair of semi detached houses that are part of a larger project to make a vaguely urban space. They're going to be suitably generical 20th century-ish and probably bare no respect for scale, measurements or reality. The hope is to have separate first floors and roofs to allow access to units, but with minimal detailing inside for space/sanity reasons. I may even build damaged first floors for swapping in as needed, these will defiantly be gaming pieces, I've no delusions of winning, the deadline's what I'm after. :)

So to begin I need to take apart some old scenery to recycle the plasticard for building.

Ugh, this build gets more complicated by the moment and I'm still at the thinking it through stage, been researching roof pitch angles and suddenly realised I've not thought about chimneys yet. Also the floorplan means the roof tiling has got more complicated. I may have to resort to maths for some of this rather than just winging it like usual.

Sounds good :)
Yep,builds always get a little complicated when one throws in realism ;D

...and that is why I don't worry about realism.  :D

I like the idea of having swoppable damaged sections

I like the idea too just hope I don't run out of time, I have started cutting up plasticard for this but I don't think a pile of that next to some engineering blocks is worth a photo yet.

Well I've done something, the shape is very simple as is the wall construction, as you can see from the paint I'm recycling some old terrain tiles I've never used and just layering embossed plasticard on top of the basic walls. It's undecided if the doors are going to get some relief on the inside or if I'll use paint to show them. Again how complex the windows get will depend on what materials come out of the draw of stuff. Why I decided to cut them out I don't know.

The first floor is going to be rendered rather than brick so it's going to stick out ever so slightly at the sides to give a bit of interest in what is essentially a box.

Hopefully more later.

Cheers chaps, still making progress but I'm trying not to rush as I keep making mistakes, should have another picture later, reality permitting.

Your build looks very neat with perfect right angles etc.
I am following with interest.

I bought a pair of 123 blocks to try and keep everything a bit less cowboy than normal :)

So I've got half the first floor done, now I just need to make a mirror image of it and figure out the roof, but small details.
Speaking of which, the little mistakes keep sneaking in, the point of the roof is 3mm out of position, hardly noticeable, but really, really annoying.

Awesome structure so far. Is that white sheet styrene you are using for the walls? If so how thick?
