Recommendations for 10mm playing mat
« on: January 26, 2022, 07:06:13 PM »
I have an excellent 6' x 4' fatmat (grassy plains) but it doesn't quite look as nice with my 10mm armies.  Or "not nice enough" for me to cast about for other possible playmats - my 10mm figures have a darker basing, earth and darker grasses, so I'm thinking a darker mat is a good idea.

I'd also like to grid off one side, for To The Strongest, leaving the other side "plain" for Warmaster etc and so I wonder if anyone here has done something like this?

Would some kind of felt work?  I'm worried a light fabric might snag the corners of the bases and not work great (they're flat steel bases), but maybe a double-sided heavier fabric?

What have you used that you like?

Any sellers out there with something that would work (and don't have expensive shipping to the US)?

I’m a big fan of Deep Cut Studios matts - they will print a grid on them if you want. On the last mat I got I just went for the corners of the boxes printed - this way they are easy to ignore for normal games, but easy enough to see for games like TtS or Rommel.

Here are some of my 10mm figures on the Plains image

This is the Arid Plains pattern mat with the grid corners printed (and my half-finished terrain on it)

The corners with it are also great for when you need to mark out parts of the battlefield for what is there for the game...letting you, easily, get the larger mats and use parts of it for some variety.
