Www2 -3d printed 15/18mm German Mechs
« on: April 07, 2023, 08:29:22 AM »
Hello again all,
Here are my first 2 AEWW2 German medium mechs.
https://castrarunis.blogspot.com/2023/04/wierd-world-war-2-1518mm-german-mechs.html

I think they can easily be used in another steampunk/dieselpunk setting.

These are 3D printed & bought from Filamentio.
Lovely posable ( ball & socket) model with nice detail.

They are designed for 28/32mm so building & re supporting in 15/18mm takes time ( tedious sometimes) but worthwhile. Note that I kitbashed the MG42 pintle mount & inserted a steel needle in it to make it stronger.

If you're into this genre + sci-fi , he has more great mechs & vehicles.
These will be used with my previous models ( still a lot to do )

Thank you PM,
Glad you like them.
There are more pics on the blog.

They are quite different from my usual scifi mechs and would be perfect for MAK , Dust & Konflikt 47.

You should look them up on My mini factory as he has more designs especially vehicles.

Thanks for the praise Wm ;)

I always try to approach my models, especially my scratchbuilt or kitbashed ones with the question as in real life " what would I do or would this make sense.?

Where can I put/hang this? For e.g. These mechs have nice bars integrated into the design & it would be a pity not to use them. Simple tissue paper bed rolls, milliput haversacks, wire ropes & boxes/cans made from sprue.

Or Would a mini fit in that vechile/door? Does this mini look right next to that kitbashed/resized 3d model?

I would like to model a mech with seated infantry like ww2 t-34's we see in pictures crammed with men but then I reason would the walking gate of a mech be comfortable to them or would it be like riding a howdah on an elephant? ( think olifants in the LOR film )

What do you think? Would it make sense having footsloggers on a mech catching a well deserved ride? Any thoughts/ideas are welcome.

Kit bashing models with little extras always seem to bring them more to life.

As for infantry I would use a support vehicle for them to keep up with the Mechs. They can dismount when needed to go into build up areas or for going into areas that the Mechs can't go. Something on the lines of the Halftracks would look good.

Thanks for the reply WM,

That would make sense, they could also be weird tech/ diesel punk antigrav or hover. He already has models which I can use / kitbash..
Looking at the Mechs I might try to paint the pistons in grimy steel + more oil patches.

Love the detailing you added - it really elevates the model and takes it from something that would just read sci-fi, to a weird war 2 flawlessly!

Also, always glad to discover another 15/18mm blog! I just spent a decent chunk of time browsing all your creations and it made me want to dip my toe in sci-fi, because I love all the creative sci-fi builds you make! The blog is now added to my rss reader so I can keep up with what other awesome stuff you'll up to.

Thanks Frd,
Glad you like them.
And thank you for the praise re the blog, there is indeed  lot of stuff there.
15/18mm is indeed the way to go especially because of space & there are quite a number of great mini makers in that scale.

Will be posting more ( soonish  ;))
