Tractics rules are Back in Print
« on: February 03, 2022, 11:30:54 PM »
The old Tractics rules are back in print.

These are for tank-to-tank, and infantry actions in WWII, primarily, though there's a little info for the Cold War gamer too.

The new format is one book that has the vehicle charts included in the back, instead of the original three smaller booklets, with separate charts.  Separate charts are available for sale too, and there are a number of format options for the book and charts.  Eventually, there will be an electronic download version too.

The original rules are provided, as well as updates and additions to them too, like morale rules, along with more game-play examples than included in the original set.

You can find out more about them here:

https://www.combatrules.com/tracticsrules

There's also an on-line Facebook group titled just "Tractics" too, in case you want to check that out.

Enjoy!

For the love of God why?

Nostalgia I get, sort of but the obsessive miasma of minutiae that is Tractics is surely something that most people with an IQ higher than that of a fence post would wish to avoid.

Share the same sentiments as noted in carlos marighela's post.... most painful set of rules I ever played.
We used to say "written by engineers for engineers."

Wow, you guys are harsh.

I really don't see the problem with them, as a skirmish set, where you want to see where you hit, and the damage done.

Seems pretty simple to use to me, and certainly preferable to a lot of those D6 rules that are popular now, that lack any granularity.

1. Roll to Hit - most rules have this
2. Roll for Hit Location - some rules have this
3. Check Penetration vs. Armor - some/many rules have this (hit angle is considered - not included in some rules)
4. Check for Damage Done, and Casualties - most rules have this

Once you get used to the rules, and if not using hordes of tanks and other vehicles on the tabletop, I think they work pretty well.  The pull out data sheets for the various vehicles you are using help speed game play, since you have ready access to them.

The infantry rules are pretty straight-forward too, and there are a couple of new, quickplay, condensed infantry rules options for faster play and resolution, with fewer modifiers - D6 and D20 based.

Rules for artillery, air attacks, flak, morale now too, etc., etc.
