Battle of Crehen, Belgium 1940
« on: January 25, 2022, 05:36:11 AM »
I'm looking to do one of the very first clashes between the French and Germans in the German 1940 invasion of Belgium, at the village of Crehen. However when I look up information about the battle, I can't seem to find any agreement on what both sides even fielded.
Some boardgames and miniatures scenarios show the Germans only having tanks, others say it did have artillery support and one gives them infantry too. As for the French same sort of confusion - one site says they only had tanks  (H-39s at that), another shows Dragoon infantry with even a few ATGs, another fields Somu-35s and one even some CharBs.
I googled my heart out but still unsure of what the starting units/types should be.

Any help would be appreciated.

Michael Krause has Crehen as one of the scenarios in his 1940 collection. Gives 2 German tank coys plus HQ  with attached Recon coy and off table artillery vs 3 coy of French Dragoons with Tank support coy.
Very small scenario.

His books are extremely good value for the level of research and the quality of maps and well researched OOBs he provides.

Yep, I have those scenarios but I also have found other sites contradicting that. One stated the Germans only had tanks as they were in lead of the advance and lacked any artillery support. I have also seen in various wargames of the battle that the French had :

                   Just  H-39 tanks
                    Had  Somua-35 tanks
One even had Char Bs but the guy who gamed it admitted his was not accurate.

Thanks though.
