Painting up Nemesis: Lockdown 2022-01-31
« on: January 25, 2022, 09:13:33 PM »
First week in January "Nemesis: Lockdown" arrived. The game is fantastic, and I may actually like this version better than the original "Nemesis". Been putting these minis on hold as I painted up what I had left of Conan - but with that done time has come to start painting some Sci-Fi.

I may as well be frank, I hate the new aliens/intruders aka "Night stalkers". Sculpting and end result of those minis is horrible, as they look weird in a bad way and are cluttered with details. I will most likely paint them in dim red emergency OSL.

The Kickstarter edition came with some fun extras, such as destructable doors, Mars rover marker and such. I will be painting everythin in order, starting with the terrain, then player characters and finally the two new types of aliens that came with the Kickstarter version of Nemesis: Lockdown.

I experimented with some dry pigments as well as AK Interactive streaking grim and Dirty Down "Rust" for bunker door that is supposed to face the Mars surface in the game. Turned out OK'ish for a first try with some new paints. The remaining destructable interior doors will be less pigmented and rusty.

Nice work. Sorry to hear the new minis suck but the game is good? Even better than the core rules, eh?

@Dentatus, yeah the minis suck but the game is actually a tad more interesting for two reasons. One being the inclusion of light/darkness in the base where the game takes place. You need to keep power generators running, and switching lights on various floors to avoid penalties - and light also clears the noise markers which makes a huge difference. Monsters are also hitting harder and ambush you more easily in darkness, and events are more punishing in darkness.

The other thing I really like is the "company lockdown order" which replaced the navigation chart from the original. Now there are a number of contingencies that often force you to avoid one of the ways to escape - or force you to complete additional tasks not to be killed by the end of the game even if you survive. As players hold pieces of information it adds a bit of scheming and deduction to try to find out what the contingency in your game is.

So today I finished the crew (which had been painting over 2 1/2 evenings) and did a quick and cheap paintjob on the "Night Stalkers" which is one of the two new alien types in Lockdown. I really hate the alien models so I figured that painting them up with "emergency light OSL" was good enough for me. And they do look a tad less repulsive and chaoticly busy with paint on compared to bare grey plastic.

Also started on the first player marker and the second alien race this afternoon, hope to have everything painted up by the end of the weekend.

Last of the Night stalkers and family portrait group shot. Painted up the Night Stalkers in just a few hours with minimum efforts. Mostly spray undercoat followed by layers of various reds, brown and blue by airbrush and finished them with a yellow drybrush. They are the definition of "good enough" and serve their purpose.

Very nice, especially for the ones with the so called quick and easy paintjob, it would take me ages to get those results (if at all)

This evening I finished painting the remaining aliens from the Nemesis:Lockdown stretch goals. These are the mushroom/spore infestation Cythrids which were quite fun to paint.

Some in-game pictures of the reverse side of the Lockdown game board, and pictures of my previously painted up crews for the original Nemesis board game and the Aftermath expansion.
