BSC2022 pistolpete restful pool
« on: January 26, 2022, 10:18:41 PM »
So thanks to vanvlak for allowing me a slightly overdue entry.  For those of you who think it might be unfair, you needn’t worry based on my vote shortcomings from last year’s BSC.  For my rest build, I’ve had an idea for some time about creating a generic tribal/native village suitable for pulp exploration, populated by the frostgrave tribals naturally.  I’ve got some things sort of started before the pandemic hit so I’ll have to dig through some storage before posting pics.

I don't think starting late is considered an advantage in any competition. :D

I'm rather more interested in what others build and what method they use (totally not for stealing ideas for later  lol ), than the actual competition part :)
Good luck.

Ok getting started on huts.  First idea was to use cardboard pieces as frame and drape wet paper towels with glue.  Looked ok but not for jungle tribals.  Then had some cheap easter egg shells from Michael’s with a better shape.

Cut off one end, and some rough sanding to improve glue adherence. Going to attach some twine to look like supports using tacky glue.

Still going to use the wet paper towels over the top as it’s simple, easy but takes a bit to dry.

Glad to see you are onboard Pete - I don’t think anyone is seriously bothered about late entries...technically it puts you at a disadvantage, but either way it’s a fun contest not life or death  :)

After chatting with the better half, decided to switch ideas on restful.  Going with a backyard pool as a pretty decent place to rest.  So here’s the basics

Removed all the cream cheese from inside and glued the pool supports.  As luck would have it, the container had indents where they should go.

Not too concerned about slightly different lengths of supports as i intend to place it on a base with some spackle.
A little nervous about leaving the label on but hopefully some spray primer will cover that all up.

More progress on the pool pump filter using some plastic bits laying around from model cars.  Also a deck using plastic card.  Just waiting for glue to dry to continue.

Lookin good.  You will need some trellis on that deck for the raccoons to get into.   :D

Never stopped raccoons getting on my deck, but yes some railings are in the plans.
