Suggestions Needed for The Avenger & Team
« on: 30 September 2009, 08:00:56 PM »
Hi.

I've always been a fan of the larger-than-life heroes of the two-fisted action filled pulps.

I'm looking to expand my ranks with The Avenger and his team.

The Avenger...

In other words... I need you all's collective genus at miniature hunting.

I've got a good Richard Benson (The Avenger), but will still like suggestions in case a better one turns up.

What I need is the rest of the team...

Smitty - big, strong, not too bright looking.

Nellie - petite bombshell with ju-jitsu training.

Mac - redheaded Scottsman with big knobby fists & ears that stick out like sails. Wing-nut head.  :)

Josh - an educated African-American male who dresses like a servant to make other underestimate him.

Roselyn - (spelling?) Jose's wife. Just as smart as him.

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

Hi warrenss2,

just to help you along...
I don't know if you'll find your specific miniatures there, but I propose to look here:

I talked to Bob Murch once about doing an Avenger but he pointed out to me that the visual we have of the Avenger from the cover is very much a product of the seventies when they were released and if you were to do a Benson as he appeared in the pulps he would like pretty much like an ordinary guy.

With that in mind I started looking at figures to portray the characters myself, as they are also some of my favorites. I looked first at the Pulp Figure range so they fit well with all my other pulp characters (also from that range.) My choice for the Avenger was Books Patterson from this sethttp://www.pulpfigures.com/catcode.php?range=Gangland%20Justice&code=PGJ&number=11&custID=711612461461254354214

There are plenty of choices for Nellie, a scottsman in a kilt for a possible Mac and a big guy or two for Smitty possibilities. Look through the line and see for yourself since we all picture them differently. Good luck and let us know what you end up using.
We haul ours to kick theirs.

@ Diehard -  lol What a coincidence!! I too choose a Bob Murch work for my Avenger. The rightmost guy on the top row...

Of course I'm going to have to whittle the gun down a little bit to make it look like "Mike". And lose the flower.

@ Hauptgefreiter - I'm going to check out those links right now. Thanks!!!

Murch's "not-Doc Savage" is based on the iconic James Bama paperback images from the '70s, not the pulp covers from the '30s, so what's the problem...?!
