Bronze Age Midgard Test

A couple of weeks back we playtested James Morris's Midgard rules with North European Bronze Age figures, cracking game, write up and some pictures here:

Roger, many thanks for posting. I too have a large Foundry Bronze age collection and Midgard might just fit the bill assuming I can stretch it to 2 forces. Apart from Foundry which other manufacturers do you use. I  particularly like the Chieftain pictured in several of the photos. Is he one of the currently out-of-production Aventine "Italian Hill Tribes" range?

Hi, the figure with the bowl helmet and Feathers is from the North Star range, to add variety I have made lots of small head and weapon swaps which works really well, I have also used light troops such as archers and slingers from other Bronze age ranges as they are just semi naked dudes with apropriate weapons, Foundry Trojan archers and Warlord Hittite slingers I think. I have also taken some Perry plastic Mahdists with spears or javelin and given them a head swap. Just a small number to give that added variety also 2 or 3 Picts which works if selective with particular miniatures. You will probably spot some of these in the pictures.

Always loved your collection, years back you inspired me to buy the Foundry Bronze Age figs and paint them up. I tried two sets of rules with them and neither clicked, sad thing was one of the sets was one I created. Still didn't like'em. 
So they languish in a box. Maybe I should try these rules?

Lovely to hear about the inspiration, I think these rules will do it for me, that said I want a couple more playtests before considering rebasing and buying more figures. The are aimed at battles rather than skirmishes so worth bearign in mind. James is running participation games at Hammerhead in March if you get the chance.

I chatted to James at the Newark show last October and he kindly forwarded me a draft of the rules to playtest.  Unfortunately my planned opponent died and so then did my enthusiasm. I'll dig them out and have a read as to what I might need.

Participation game is out for me I'm afraid. I live in the states.
Hopeful there will be pictures and a write up on the game though for those of us who can't make it.

Very much interested. I have a certain fondness for the European Bronze Age and wish I had a good set of rules to play it. Looking forward to seeing the Midgard rules.

The Midgard rules are currently still in play testing.  I’m talking to a publisher later this month but no release date yet. That said, if you are interested in play testing, please drop me a pm.

The Boudi I bought two of so one mounted one dismounted and just cut down the base to get a little point and drill a small hole in the cahriot, simple really, its a lovely model.
