thx

so I figure paint chipping and peeling would occur more on the lower part of the superstructure and around the handling zones

I like the cement loading stains You made - very thoughtful
and also where the roof protection peels off

never saw a waggon with that angular kind of roof

is it more US or european?

A) Yes.

B) These are British. Angular roofs with hatches were usual on wagons for ash, lime and sand (here´s one pictured for salt too) - I conclude these were used for light dry bulk goods.
Italian boxcars / vans usually always had those roofs too, but to a lower angle.

Your Work is really  - wahnsinn!  o_o

Yes, I would even argument that these roofs could be best to keep dry bulk freight dry, as the water would dripp off better, also if there are loading hatches on top

maybe I'll consider making one myself, in the next batch  (next year maybe)

I keep wandering how You get so much done in such short time...

I'm always amazed by your projects.  I have never seen better weathering on gaming models.  Everything looks so museum quality.   :o

Hi there

Excellent idea and models , however could you please explain ' I widened the body by one centimetre ' ?

Is that each side ? or overall ? is that the horizontal base plates or the added side tanks , sorry don't know the real terms as I am not a train buff.

regards Paul

Paul, that is overall width. I suppose you are talking about the engine rather than the wagons, because you mention the tanks. On the locomotive I added a 5mm plastic strip on each side of the horizontal base plate as you call it. Then I rebuilt the complete body (cab and tanks) from scratch, but left the boiler as it was.
The open wagons were widened in a similar manner with new wider floors and wider panels on the ends. The vans got new roofs and widened end panels. The brake van is the only wagon with increased height too (it got sratch build end panels, roof and added side panels).

Michi

Thanks for this explanation , I do have an article that was once in Military Modeller and a much larger engine [ more wheels etc. ] than your starting point although the boiler looks wimpy !

However I do want to depict a British armoured engine so will be winging some of it.

That is an excellent set of wheels for it to tow as well , think I may have to print this out as a reference for when the saw comes out !
