Size of Splintered Light 15/18mm pig-faced orcs?
« on: February 02, 2022, 10:09:07 PM »
Does anyone know how big the SL pig-faced orcs are?

I know they're 15/18mm, but I'm wondering whether they're at the bigger or smaller end of that scale, and also whether they're scaled to be tall orcs or small orcs at that scale.

My motive here is wondering whether they'd work in 1/72 as smallish D&D orcs of the old-school sort. In the Sutherland illustrations (and the more recent Russ Nicholson tribute), pig-faced orcs were quite small. I suppose this is in line with Chainmail, where orcs were 25mm in height (i.e. 1/72) to a human's 30mm (i.e. 28mm). They got scaled up for the Monster Manual.

If anyone can provide any guidance on this or - ideally - a comparison shot, I'd be very grateful!

I'd love to know as well! I love pig-faced orcs and 15's are usually more reasonably priced. I love your idea of using them with 1/72, as well. If I order some, I'll be sure to reply again with results to your question.  :)

Thanks, Mardigan!

Because figure sizes at 15-18 mm are so variable, it's really hard to know. I have some Splintered Light wild orcs, and they're exquisite but unviable at 1/72. But the pig-faced chaps are by a different designer, so who knows? There are a lot of 15mm orcs/goblins and dwarves that work quite well with 1/72.

Don't know, but just as a heads up, we have the GOR coming out soon, very soon actually, and they are 15mm to the eye.  Should be released in a week or two, and I'll announce it here.

There are swordsmen, archers, spearmen, infantry command, mounted archers (on bear dogs), mounted spearmen, mounted command, wizards with caludrons casting spells (!!!), and there will be non-combatants as well. Swordsmen are shown here:

I didn’t know the Gor were coming out so soon! I’ve been watching Facebook and skulking the Khurasan website. I’m struggling to stay reasonably frugal while building a shopping list…and now this!  lol
