Sohoro and Torii gate for Bushido
« on: February 10, 2022, 06:24:09 PM »
I kind of lost my mojo for writing my blog... But I would like to share what I have done this afternoon (because Im still play, paint and craft). I made a torii gate for Bushido (after I played my first game, I completely felt in love with it):

(Sorry for the bad picture, had only time for a quick mobile shot before dinner!)

Welcome to the fold; Bushido is one of the best and most fun skirmish games I ever played and my absolute favourite!  8)

The gate looks absolutely ace; I'm curious to see what else you come up with  :)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Simple, quick, effective, and absolutely looks the part. Nicely done!

Thanks!
I will try to complete it as fast as I can, because as longer a piece is laying unfinished, the harder is it to continue with it...

Another work in progress from a sohoro (bell tower):

The bonsho (bell) is not really good, but I hope, that the small carvings can hide the sculpting flaws. The curved forms of the roof (a lot of try and error...) are also far away from perfect, but hopefully after painting it will be good enough. I was thinking about making the roof tiles individual somehow, but all the pictures are found show such a perfect fitting, which should be almost invisble in that scale. Originally I was planning to glue the wooden frame on a plattform, but now I think that they will be two separate parts, so the plattform can be used as some kind of arena too (maybe with a nice floor pattern?).

Impressive. I think the curved roof looks great.

Thanks to all! Im still not convinced about the roof... Is too curved, a bit assymetric, and I dont like the shingles. Maybe I will start over.

One thing you might want to try is taking some cheap, plastic straws, cut them in half lengthwise and see if covering the joins makes it look better for you. You can cut the halves down to the size of the shingles (you'd probably do better making them slightly longer than the length of the ones you'd see for the normal ones) and cover those. On a lot of the roof designs like that, the trim shingles tend to tie it together better and are oversized for the rest of the roof.

To use plastic straws is a great idea! The great question is, if its available here or not... Q-tips with plastic stem is already only a memory.

Lovely stuff.

Bushido's good, innit?
I love the fact that the small scale allows for so many projects, both for warbands and scenery and it has the best gameplay I've come across, period.

Really digging what you've done so far and be sure to check it out when you painted it up.

It is good. It is very good! The setting is a matter of taste (I just love it!), the miniatures are dynamic, detailed and very harmonic (not like some other manufacturers, where even the last canonnfodder is looking like a walking cathedral/graveyard...), in my opinion overall the best in fantasy, and the rules work also very well (the dice mechanics is brilliant). The learning curve is pretty steep with that sheer amount of traits, but its still (with hands down) one of the best games!

I finished the torii gate (scenic glue is still wet, thats why it looks a bit white) and the plattform/stage/arena, where the sohoro could stand.
