Beneath the Fortress of Voc. (A FFofL Fantasy Game)
« on: May 05, 2022, 04:40:55 PM »
A raiding party led by the Wizard Nos-Len is trying to get
through the caves under the Orc Fortress of Voc. If they
manage to get passed the Goblins, who are billeted there,
they hope to lower the draw-bridge & thereby let in the
army.

The force consists of:-
Nos-Len (A master of the Path of Light)
Yed-Rah (A tough as nails Ranger with longbow & sword)
& three Dwaves, Go, Vole & Runt.
[picture 119]

Opposing them are:-
Nafyrt-Nevoc (An ugly brute of an Orc)
Drad-Nats (an overseer goblin)
[picture 201]
and three goups (each of 3) rabble.
One of spears [picture 202]
One of sword & shield [picture 203]
& one of short bows [picture 204]

Next is the set up & game.

Cool. Are you doing this as a 1 v 1 competitive game? And why is this listed in Future Wars? I stumbled across it by chance.

This was a quick set up game, with Flatpack playing
the baddies & JC the good guys.
For each good guy to get safely across = 20% towards a dice throw
attempt on the drawbridge. Minus 5% for each wound, so if JC got
the lot across with no wounds it was a certainty the bridge would fall.

To give the goblins a chance they had a form of concealed movement.
Until:- spotted, shooting or revealed by Flatpack each of his characters/
groups of rabble would be represented by a marker.
[picture 200]

JC advanced boldly [picture 205]
The Goblins closed in [picture 206]

Thing (literally) hotted up after that.
(& I forgot to take more pictures)
Nos-len cast the Fireball spell, it had a
dramatic effect on the targeted Gobbo
bowmen.  Yed-Rah kept up a steady stream
of accurate arrows while the Dwarves advanced
on a broad front, well they would wouldn't they?  lol
Soon the nine rabble goblins started to fall like...
nine pins. :'( You get a lot of them, but dey ain't dat good.)
A second successful fireball really doomed the evil side.
Laughing the Wizard went for a killer shot with his third
fireball of the game. He seemed to forget that it would
scorch ANYONE within the 5" of the target. Cue one
mightily scared Dwarf, who was too far forward.  :o
Luckily he came away only slightly singed.  :)
IT was about then that Nevoc (most powerful of the baddies)
decided to come out of the shadows where he had been lurking.
Perhaps my intro., which gave a lot of renown for killing the enemy
leader, had worried him. He proceeded to give a very good account
of himself, even managing to take out a dwarf (despite his heavy armour
& shield). This turned out to be the ONLY loss for the forces of good,
not even one wound! :o :o :o.
Flatpack, now down to just Nevoc & Drad-Nats, decided that he who
runs away...lives to run away another day  :D.
[picture 207 = the piles of Goblin dead, some still smoldering].

It just remained for JC to throw 80% or less & the drawbridge would fall.
No big surprise he managed it.

This was only my second game with the fantasy rules, but we were all
fairly experienced FFofL players, so no big problems.
Did we enjoy it?  Yes.
Would the lads play it again? They said yes, & as you can field a team with
as few as five miniatures, they may well raid their respective lead mountains.
The 'terrain' was provided by a 'Giant Book of Battle Maps' (62 pages of
Battle Maps for tabletop RPGs) My copy was picked up from e-bay at a nice price.

No Baron.  It was to give two of my mates a taste of the fantasy rules.
We all like FFofL in all its formats, & as it only takes about 5 figures =
minimum expense but maximum FUN. :D

Thanks must go to Westfalia Chris for moving this into
the Fantasy section & not the Sci-Fi where this Numpty
had placed it.

Some ‘in action’ shots from the game.

Never throw cannon fodder against wizards.

My main man against very small men. Lol

A jolly good hand for FFOL.

Fun game as ever using FFOL.
First fantasy game for 40 years.
Wargaming gone full circle.
Played fantasy the last time when I was a schoolboy, and the next time when I’m now retired.
