Robots - Mech Miniatures printed in 18mm
« on: February 12, 2022, 02:15:51 PM »
I simply love robots,
Fell in love with them ever since I watched the first manga shows. Mazinga, Patlabor, Appleseed & all the rest. I remember as a child being glued to that B&w Blaupunkt ,built like a wooden tank, TV.😀

Resin printing has opened so many new venues. The problem is where I am going to find space for all the new models 😕.

Now I am going to start posting resin printed mechs bit by bit.

Here are some. These are printed in 18mm scale BUT be warned, printing 28mm at this scale ends up with fragile models  ( remember you are downscaling joints, legs, arms etc. ) .

They are the GRNt Police models from Turnbase minis.
Kindly offered by them as free on their website. They have some great minis especially if you're into 28mm near future or scifi. AND they also have anime like robots.( another in the long list of wants ..sigh...)

Thanks for your comments.

Wow, the details are great! Nice paint work as well. What plans do you have for them?

Thank you both.
No plans at all WM.just making them for the fun of it & sharing since they're free. Must buy his superb anime ones also.

Indeed they are Dan. Would love to do them in 32 or 54mm & especially kitbash them with other minis but space to store them is an issue.

I have many more in the queue. Some free like Duncan Shadow ( I think It is Shadow) or paid for like Papsikels, Anvil industry & others. Must get me some Lazy Forger's also & upscale them. And if one is into wh40k in 15mm( yes another project sigh!!!!) there are some great ones by the Evil One.

I have also printed/kitbashed mechwarrior minis as power armour or droids. 3d printed is time consuming but worth it &  I fix incompletes with putty & sprue. Digital sratchbuilding + normal is the new way for me ;) :D :D

Those are brilliant!

I've seen them a few times but didn't think that downscaling them would work, so avoided grabbing them in case I ended up with another half hearted project.

I'm now quite tempted to grab quite a few Turnbase minis and churn them out in 15/20mm  lol

Off course you are, who wouldn't be ?  ;) :D :D :D.

Just keep in mind that as I said, downscaling or upscaling create new venues BUT also creates problems ( opportunities for improvement  ;) ).
For eg. Weapons, ankles & elbows become fragile nightmares when downscaling and are a pain to fix as they are fiddly.... having said that they can easily be
fixed by planning before hand by thickening or making more robust joints in a 3D prog.... I use 3D builder mostly... very simple & effective.

Also , when downsizing presupported models you are also downsizing supports, therefore what works in 28/32mm may not work in 15/20.
Think ahead , from experience over supporting is better than under supporting.

I use Elegoo water washable on a Mars 2 Pro with standard settings.... oh a cleaning station, (I have an Elegoo Mercury) is super for  cleaning 15mm minis...... & I always leave minis to dry first then cure them the next day.

Hope this helps

Here are more , this time from Robot Legion.

https://castrarunis.blogspot.com/2022/07/here-are-more-robots-3d-printed-ones.html

These are from Robot Legion. The 4 legged ones are kitbashed. They are spindly in 18mm but very nice minis. Have to print the flyers next.

Thanks

And these are scaled down mech found on the internet
( If I am not mistaken,Ypu used them in a post for his 6mm & gave the link. Thanks, they are very nice minis ).

Battletech etc minis work out great for 18mm.

Thanks
