Apart from being better supplied with support than the RCW equivalents, yes, it was standard. They did find that their tachankas and artillery didn't go up the mountain-sides very well though. Air support was a major aid.

It had fought with Budenny's First Horse Army, then was used to mop up Makhno, before being sent to Turkestan. It was presumably quite a veteran unit by this stage.

You can find its time line here: https://pygmywars.com/rcw/history/orbats/redcavalry.html

God bless you again Comrade!

The Soviet 35th rifle division (103rd, 104th, 105th brigades, 35th cavalry regiment) and Shchetinkin's Special Expeditionary Detachment of Red Partisans (mounted) were in the Baikal region. The border of the Far Eastern Republic (FER) with Mongolia was guarded by units of the People's Revolutionary Army of the FER - the 2nd Separate "Sretenskaya" cavalry brigade, as well as a border battalion and a guard company.
In addition, in the border Mongolian city of Maimachen, Red Mongolian units under the command of Sukhe-Bator were grouped. The total number of troops concentrated against Ungern reached 7,500 bayonets and 1,950 sabers with 250 machine guns and 28 guns.
Later, the 5th Cavalry Division joined the Reds, and the 7th Special Detachment, the 232nd and 234th Rifle Regiments from the 26th Rifle Division were also sent from the 5th Red Banner Army.
By the beginning of the performance, Ungern had a superiority of 1,300 people in terms of manpower, but was inferior in the number of machine guns by more than 6 times and in artillery by 7 guns.

Lots of good stuff here folks. I've been undercoating and converting. Realised that I've not heard back from Outpost Wargames. Better chivvy them along.

Forgot. Outpost figures are here. They'll have to join the lead queue...
