1672 Dutch Artillery
« on: March 10, 2022, 09:36:27 AM »

Here is my first unit of 1672 artillery, a unit of Dutch which, most improbably, I painted myself! They are from North Star 1672 range with a lovely officer from Warfare Miniatures.

More about them on t'blog at https://bigredbat.blogspot.com/2022/03/dutch-artillery-1672-style.html

Very pretty. Bases look nice and natural too. Would love to see the rest of the army and for that matter opponents...

Great stuff. Thinking of these for a pirate game as the Spanish. Yellow?

Thanks chaps!

There is, conveniently, a 1672 Spanish range. They are very Spanish-looking but I suspect the uniforms are 1660's - by 1672 I think the Spanish were more similar to the French, in style.  Hasn't stopped me buying a couple hundred, though. ;-)

These are great !

Can I ask about the red sashes and cuffs - was this a Dutch Artillery thing? I’ve gone with orange on mine - but not sure this is from any other reason than Dutch = Orange!

Sash colours- I think there are some orange ones in a Knotel print, but I don't think anyone knows for sure, I've read various sash colours suggested. The blue with red cuffs seems reasonably likely for Dutch uniforms, though.  If I could have been fagged, I'd have repainted the sashes (I had a couple already in red) orange as the most likely colour.   But 1672 is like the ECW, yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice.

This is a period I am looking at with great interest, for the same reasons too, a comfortable bit of leeway in colour details - and this battery is inspiring!  8) 8) 8)
