An addition to the early war Far East British collection. The venerable 18 pounder was still in service in the 1930s. The carriage was modified and wheels changed to pneumatic tyres so the gun could be towed by a vehicle. Other than the inclusion of an AP round it was much the same gun that served so well in 1914-18. At the start of the second world war a number went to France with the BEF and a number were already stationed in Hong Kong, Malaya and Burma. The gun model is from SHQ and the crew are from the AB set for the 25pdr in the Western Desert. I've hazard a guess it was painted in pre-war Bronze Green and likely remained that colour, but as I say, it's a guess.

One incentive to getting the 18pdr gun finished has been the play testing we have been doing for the forthcoming Far East Handbook for Chain of Command. At the moment the focus is on the early part of the war in places like Hong Kong, Malaya and Burma with a particular focus on how best to represent the Japanese and the specific terrain of the region, particularly jungle. There are some very nice ideas in draft form at the moment so we took the opportunity of a club night to play a game set in Malaya and use my early war Far East British. Overall the theatre specific rules are playing out very well and are definitely heading in the right direction. If nothing else it was good to get the Far East terrain and figures out again.

TP,

I've tended to be very quiet lately but wanted to let you know how much I love and admire your work. Just lovely to look at - the models and the photography.

A really interesting general post.  Love the early Chinese Nats.  IIRC their Pz1s might be in two-tone camo, but Fall Gelb not so much.

I look forward to reading your Far East CoC expansion, always intrigued how people handle jungle.

I'll be back

Cheers

John

Thanks. Rules for jungle were created for a campaign set in Malaya but now that the Lardies are putting out a Far East supplement they are revisiting all the rules. Some will remain unchanged and a few are fine tuned. If you're interested in following how we've played with the Japanese so far you might want to look at how we played the Malaya campaign (called Malaya 1942) and one set in Singapore (called Last Stand on Opium Hill). You can find links to every game on this page http://thetacticalpainter.blogspot.com/p/chain-of-command-campaign-aars.html

Inspired by the Major Thomas Foolery blog I think I've found a solution to creating scatter terrain for my Far East games in places like Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaya and Burma. I converted this Lledo Dennis van and there's a bit more detail on how I did it here http://thetacticalpainter.blogspot.com/2022/07/converting-die-cast-vehicles-for-second.html

That's come up really well, now stop mucking about painting stuff unless it's for a forthcoming campaign.  :)

Seems like the TFL Far East supplement is still some time away, so we're back to doing European battles. I'm hoping to do Bloody Bucket next... still some figs to finish.
