Another of the very useful 20mm sets from Wargames Foundry. This time a set of German support weapons. This fills one small gap in particular- a 50mm mortar with a crew in mid to late war uniforms. While the mortar was little used as the war progressed there are games in 42-43 where they can still appear in the order of battle or as support choices.



The figures carrying ammo for the MG34/42 are also handy as extra crew figures for the MMG/HMG version. As previously, all nice sculpts.

I really like the 1940 Foundry stuff, the 50mm mortar is an excellent piece and often forgotten piece of kit.

Thank you, that’s very nice of you to say so. What draws me to miniature gaming is the visual aspect, so those things are important to me. I only returned to miniature gaming about 10 years ago after playing historical board games for 25 years. I worry much less about the visual aspect with board games (as long as the game is good), but it matters a lot if I’m playing with miniatures, otherwise, what’s the point?

Made a fair bit of progress with the US Marines, my first new project for the year. I've painted up the first platoon and they are just waiting for varnishing and final work on the base. In the meantime I've been working on a few LVTs and an M4a3. I've used a colour scheme inspired by a set of Star Decals and these are schemes used on Iwo Jima or Okinawa.

The LVTs are all from 172 Scale Miniatures. They are not overly detailed and a bit chunky in parts but from playing distance I think they look the part.











Last is a picture of the M4a3, this is a plastic kit from Trumpeter. I didn't like the rubber band tracks much, they were too tight and needed stretching. Still not perfect, but better.

The first batch of US Marines finished for the Pacific project. These are from the Eureka Miniatures 20mm range and they are lovely figures, probably my favourites of that range.

I'm surprised at the relatively small range of choices for Marines in this scale. I wanted to fill a few gaps using the Grubby range but when I put together an order worth £29 I was a little shocked to see they wanted to charge me £30 for postage. Not sure how they calculate their postage but I know for a fact that a parcel that size from UK to Australia shouldn't be more than £10, probably less. Needless to say I didn't proceed. I'll be back in England later in the year so will probably pick them up then when UK postage for the same parcel is £3.95.

Gorgeous stuff! I suppose these companies have to make money somehow but £20 extra charge on postage is ridiculous- hope we’ll get to see the range painted when you’re back in England
