Home Game - 28mm Second Punic War using To The Strongest
« on: March 31, 2022, 03:17:19 PM »
Like many I used lockdown to start and complete projects. My first Pandemic Completion - and there were several -  was filling out my paired Second Punic War armies.

These on standardised basing for To The Strongest, the grid based game from Simon Miller. 120x60mm, which is my default for unit basing these days. The mats from Cigar Box are gridded with a 120mm grid, meaning I can get two units per box as per the rules.

This collection saw action at the Falkirk show last summer, but hadn't been touched since. 6 player game on my home 12x6 table.

Four legions, 6 elephants and a good dose of Numidian light hose - for me some classic trop types are what makes a period evocative.

6 player game played to completion in about three hours. Punic Victory - their anger line wrapped around the Man flanks before the Roman centre could punch through.

Cats helped out with troop set up.

What is it with cats - they seem to love wargaming.  lol

Good looking game - do like to the Strongest.

Thanks very much.

Its probably the textures of the cloths and things to smell and investigate. And they do like to hang around close if they like you. Occasional nibbling on spears, but no other damage.

Midpoint, excellent looking game. TTS was our little group's go-to game during lockdown . We are all big fans.....well, bar one who consistently draws "1"s!  I am running a Punic Wars game Easter Monday albeit on a slightly smaller scale.  I also occasionally have "cat problems", but my cat is about the size of both of yours combined!

Thanks very much. We've also tried TTS on TtS. The Punic set of twelve armies is a very good implementation. And the WotR and DA ones quite good as well.

A great looking game, but the cats look even better! We used to have a ginger tabby called Caligula, on account of his little white boots, who looked very much like them.

Great looking armies!

I know my cat loves my wargaming, but you have to keep an eye on them.  They love to grab pikeman by the Sarissa and try to run off with them!

Fascinating. I would love to see  see a cat try to take on a  steel sarissa. Or rather I wouldn't as I hate to think of the vet's bill!

Great looking game! I too am a big TtS fan, I use it for all my ancient and medieval games.

As for the cats, well I got a dog and he can't get up on the table being a little guy but he does love greeting all the guys when they arrive for our games.

Our cats love games night. Greet everyone at the door and then come in and supervise the action on the table.

Excellent stuff. The mat almost makes those troops become camouflaged!

TtS is our ‘go to’ big battle ancients game…far easier to run and play than Hail Caesar, particularly combat, as much as I like a number of HC ideas and concepts.

Good stuff.
