As promised, pictures of the horde!
« on: February 25, 2023, 06:36:10 PM »
Had a practice game of 5000pt mega armies at Sanctuary Games today.
My Galatian army verses Steve and his Pontics.
A resounding victory for the nutty Galation force.

I’m running a mega two day event in June, using WAB2 rules and 5000pt armies, set in the classical period.
Full details and rules pack at the end of March.

Any how, my Galation force, finally finished.
Thanks to a few painters that helped put this lot together, in particular Richard and Kevon, I only painted about 10% of this lot!
A millionaire trapped in a peasants body!

You can just about see a unit of chariots off table in the far distance.
I was using the flank rules for these.
Good job too, as my army didn’t fit in the 6 foot deployment zone!

Conclusions,
WAB2 works just fine at 5000pts.
Armies still have vulnerabilities.
8 foot tables work, but we’ll need to use Flank Attack rules for those with massive armies!

Most importantly, it looks like a proper ancient battle!

“Looks Epic” - this is true in more ways than one. The spectacle is epic, but there are also so many figures there that at a glance the table could be mistaken for a game played with ‘epic scale’ 6mm or 10mm figures! That really is a sight to behold!

Very impressive. I think that Pontic army could have handled those fanatics better :)

OMG! As Pattus has said, it’s good you told us the scale, otherwise my mind wouldn’t have wanted to believe that anyone could have so many painted (!) 28mm models!

I’d love to say I’d painted all that, but sadly not.
Just basing it all has been a task!

I am taking my Persians to 5000pts and they are all painted by me.
Unfortunately real life like working full time and long hours, plus the dark winter nights has stalled my own painting.

I’m loving using the Galatians, just point and click basically! Lol
Just trying to keep a straight battle line is difficult enough with the frenzy and warband rules.
Something I’d love to have seen for real 2000 years ago!

Love the Galatians, but Pontic’s successors are my favorites in the east

Cheers
