Barbarian conversion bits question
« on: December 04, 2021, 04:58:50 PM »
Does anyone know of some approximately scaled chaos marauder or warrior looking heads that will fit with the barbarian kit?  A lot of the conversion kits I see are scaled for GW sized kits.

Depends on what you think of for Chaos warriors and marauders.  The FG Cultist frame is loaded with sinister looking hooded heads that fit perfectly, and their Knights or Demon frames will give you armored and mutated noggins.

This guy's a barb with a cultist head, for ex:

I think you'll be limited for on there own heads

but plastic sprues from Fireforge, Perry, Victrix, Gripping beasts

will fit - just depends on what sort of head/helm you are looking for

Well, I would suggest Anvil.
Okay Stargrave but:

Mantic Northern Alliance (must do some more detailed photographs).

Most 28mm plastic historical kits would work I think (judging by the many I have, anyway!). So a sprue or two of Celtic Barbarians or Dark Age Warriors would provide you with heads for your Frostgrave Barbarians. For helmeted heads, maybe consider some Vikings or the Frostgrave Demons sprue too? You can see many examples of how various such kits blend in Ogrob's there here.

Out of interest (as I ended up using FG Barbarian heads on my GW Marauders), how come you're looking to swap the heads on your FG Barbarians for Marauder ones? Aren't the bare heads they come with suitable?  ???

Thanks for the link, going to definitely check it out.  As for the Marauder heads, I want to do some “noble” barbarians and some more “evil” ones.  Possibly followers of some ruinous powers from a different universe.

Ah, well, in case it occurred to you, the Marauder heads are too big for the Frostgrave barbarians... However, the older Chaos Warrior heads are smaller and might be a better fit (especially if you trim the horns down or off):

The kit is still available, and you get more heads than you need in each set, so you could try looking at some bits sellers/ebay?

Some of the Fireforge Teutonic Knight heads might work well, especially considering that early Chaos Warrior helmets (like from HeroQuest) were clearly influenced by Teutonic Knight helmets.

Warhammer bitz fit amazingly well on frostgrave stuff... personally i really love kitbashing Perryminiatures and GW lotr stuff with frostgrave bitz. I have a hard time sharing pictures on here but my instagram is Madvanholes and i build a ton of stuff like this for Mork Borg

I had forgotten the Barbarian Archers in the last row includes one with an Anvil Head.

They also do a range of hooded heads plus others.
