First stab at Black Seas Ships - and rigging!

Rigging Hell!

OK, maybe you've all heard it before but it's my first foray into naval stuff, so the pun needed using anyway so ... almost two years after buying the starter set, I now have a handful of fully-completed ships for Warlord Games Black Seas game, and they are so spiffing that I've popped a load of them in the lightbox and taken some snaps, some of which are previewed here.

There is a whole page of these, together with some info on how they were painted and some tips I picked up on how to do the rigging as well on the Madaxeman.com website

Paint details and the like are all on https://www.madaxeman.com/main/Black_Seas.php

OMG you have done so well. I have vowed never to do this. Might get Armada but it doesn’t involve rigging!

I believe they are supposed to be 1/700th - they must have ben released just before Warlord started inventing their own scales :-)

It took me more than 2 years to psych myself up to have a punt - I'm no skilled modeller by any stretch of the imagination, and there has been a lot of swearing along teh way... but after the first one it does get much easier  o_o

Well, that’s interesting. Because I’m thinking about getting the bigger blood and plunder plastic ships and they come out and not sure what to do about the rigging part. Maybe I psych myself up too.

Great job and perfect title!

Looking back, would you recommend knots at any point in particular, or just go with your gel / glue mix across the whole ship?
If my wife asks, I only spent half as much as I wanted to...

Hmmm. I'm still learning as I go, but the idea of starting with "very big and loose" knots (to slip the cotton over the masts, and then pull tight before gluing) for the start of each of the long runs of thread is probably where I ended up with the most recent batch.

It's when you find youself trying to decide which side of the mast each knot should be is when the real madness seems to set in...

Using a sprue cutting set of clippers to trim the loose cotton after the knots have been glued is also another tip I cooked up - they can cut really close to the mast, much closer than scissors

I found fine wire easier than thread. No knots needed and it is strong. I used the lifetime supply of florist wire inherited from my mum.
