The bases are scenic'd up now, so I'm 1/2 way there.

The 2nd 12 figures were done in 2 evenings, one was all the speedpainting, the second was all the metal. The metal was just army painter Plate Metal washed with Dark Tone.

I keep saying it, the speedpaint results are not my favourite look for an army, but I'm getting this done in no time and that's the huge benefit.

I've been sticking the figures on 40mm by 20mm plastic Renedra bases. The hero figure I just raised a little above the rest to make him stand out.

On with the rest of the army.

Cracking stuff Nick  :-*

Have you managed to tempt Kev Dallimore into doing a few? Or maybe Steve Dean? It would make for a grand Northstar Mag article  ???

They do look pretty effective en masse, speed paint or no.

He's had them, he took all the grey pictures. He's got so much else to get done, which I'd rather he did first.

Fair do's. I can imagine how busy Kev is.

After a month of outdoor activities getting in the way, I'm back to the painting desk! 8 figures in a couple of hours with the speedpaints, the last figures will be done this week.

++Actually, I got 16 done tonight, should finish the army tomorrow++

Army done.
These Speedpaints do the job, that army was finished in 3 'sittings' (evenings basically)

Just need my opponent to get his done, I'll put a battle report up when we've done.

Wouldn't mind giving Penda a try James.

As an estimate, how many minis are you painting per hour? It seems you might be getting perhaps 4-5/hour done.

I'm struggling to get my 28mm painting rate to better than 2/hour for infantry. I'm using Citadel contrast paints but still have to do some parts in the more conventional way. Are the AP Speedpaints better? I steered clear of them because I heard that they can reactivate but would happily switch if I could improve to 4 minis/hour!

It's difficult to judge after only a few sessions. I did 8 in 2 hours, but that's because I'd laid out 8. I think if it'd been 10 or 12 I'd have done them in nearly the same amount of time.

I've never used Contrast, but I'm told they are both very similar. The Speedpaints do reactivate (don't brush varnish them) but once you've got the does & don'ts sorted it's not a problem.

Even 8 in 2 hours seems a really good rate and the results look very good in my opinion. At a 3-4ft viewing distance, the "mass" effect of a large number of figures easily outweighs lower detail and less perfect brushwork. It's a great historical period to focus on.

The mass effect is great. If this was just three sessions of quick painting that’s remarkable!
Great pictures.
