Bearers with hunting catch
« on: April 24, 2022, 05:48:38 PM »
Can anyone please point me at any 28mm minis depicting bearers carrying the ca5ch of the day for some big game hunters?

Ideally I’m after a couple of Ashanti types carrying say a dead leopard or some such if it exists?

Cheers

Haven't seen such miniatures on the market but these miniatures from Wargames Foundry might work with a headswap and added pole with catch.

Might find the thread by War in 15 mm for his African Safari - there were a couple of figures carrying a dead lion suspended from a pole.  Follow the link to his website and then read through his notes for that gallery.  I am pretty sure he identifies the source.

I take it that would be a 15mm figure then?

If you’re looking for 25mm, Old Glory Porters and Loads has two bearers with a lion.

Thanks.   Having looked at these, I think a conversion is my best bet as suggested.  The old glory lion looks too big for the two porters (maybe a differing scale, not sure).

I can’t find the Tin soldiers ones in the Uk so would be expensive to order.

I will have a tinker, thanks all.

Hmmm….so after a rummage, I have half a sprue of Perry zulus, and a warlord ass!   There are only two sets of usable legs (and I will need to “de-Zulu” one set) so I really only have one shot at turning them into Askari.

The ass with a little conversion may make a passable stallion zebra.  It could work though I’m not entirely certain whether two blokes could realistically carry a dead zebra?

Interesting work 8)
Zebras weigh between 350-450 kilos, they would have to be pretty fit (my dad was chief vet and director of Taronga then Western Plains zoo’s,I have some stories  ;) , how many people can legitimately say they’ve been attacked by a leopard! His name is Ted Finnie if interested).

I would bet his stories are great!

So it seems making a zebra is pretty straight forward.    Cut and stretch the asses neck to hang down, turn it at an angle slightly for effect and fill the gap with gs.   Build up his mane and round off his ears, then cut the tail off which is welded down his leg and fashion a new one from waxed thread to hang down.  Simples!

Now for the tricky bit….sorting out the two chaps…..

Very good Pete !   Lol

Indeed, I am.  I’m quite pleased with this….it saves me a few quid for sure!

Still needs a little gs when dry to sort out the lead bearers left upper arm.  I had to raise the front guy quite a bit to get the zebras head out of the dirt…..a small price to pay me thinks…..but I like it!
