Mexican police in the 1930's??
« on: October 13, 2009, 01:19:07 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm looking for some Mexican police officers for a pulp adventure in the 1930's. Does anybody know of a company that produces anything usable? Also some civilians would be nice. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think your solution will come by Old Glory.
They have a full range of mexicans so you may find lots of suitable figures:
pack PIM-029 mexican civilians
PIM-028 camp followers (the famous "soldaderas")

although the above are designed for the 1911 Pancho Villa invasion of US, I doubt that the fashion has changed too much, at least at the rural areas of mexico. Maybe for the capital you may also throw some civilians in urban clothing like those in pack BMM404 streets of Chicago by Blue Moon manufacturing.

Regarding policemen: I do not have any info for the subect, but I believe that the regular troops of pack PIM-16 will play their part. I suggest a light brown/khaki painting scheme for rural gendarmerie types. [If you go to use them you can add cavalrymen and MG with crews]
Old Glory website is here:
http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/products.asp?cat=253&pg=2

For urban police (policia urbana - if existed) use Anglian now Empress SCW Assault Guards (but I think those with shirts are more suitable)

You can find these figures from OldgloryUK, Miniaturicum from Germany and ofcourse direct from Empress miniatures.
Both Andy (OldgloryUK) and Michael (miniaturicum in Germany and fellow LAFer) are very friendly and can help you.

If not correct info, I think those minis have the Pulp feel.

Those Soldaderas are great.  I didn't even know these existed.  Thanks for pointing them out.

I saw a movie some year ago about the murder of Trotsky. The dress the Mexican police wore there looked similar to US police in the 1920-1930s. So thats one option.
In the material for writing the Colonial tales about Vera Cruz 1914 it was mentioned that policemen wore white uniform, so from that source the OG stuff is perfect.

So maybe some Pulp figures US policemen might fit, but usually they are in long coats, only one or two in shirts.

Traveller, you might need to add some "soldaderas" in your Veracruz story. If you want to have separate figures for your mexican veracruz sailors, I suggest to use  the spanish sailors form OG Spanish-American range.

Yes,

there were a number of women participating in the resistance to the US landing so there will definately be some armed angry women there. There were though no Mexican sailors involved, only the Naval Cadets and they wore either undress uniform or full dress Napoleon style uniforms. My favourite guy though is the Getleman with the newspaper, reading and firing alternatively...
