AKULA’s Aztec Apocalypse - page 2 - first figures
« on: April 26, 2022, 04:51:10 PM »
A new project...a sort of Aztec Apocalypse incorporating elements of myth and some outright fantasy.

The idea has been bubbling away for a while now - the inspiration for this isn’t the recent Warlord Mythic range - rather my eye was caught originally by Andrew Taylor’s Antediluvian Miniatures “Conquerors of Mictlan”, by Paymaster Games’ Spirit Beasts, and Tim Prow’s Diehard Miniatures.

I’ve popped it in the Fantasy board so any budding button counters won’t feel the need to comment, safe in the knowledge that “it’s just fantasy” and so won’t offend their encyclopaedic knowledge of mesoamerican flora and fauna  ;)

Rules will be homegrown ... toying with a variation of my AR:SE zombie rules.

Planning some kitbashing...have a few of the Wargames Atlantic Aztec sprues, and going to play about with some of the Frostgrave tribals, Lucid Eye etc etc.

Likely factions:

-“Aztec-like” humans
-The dead “mictlani”
-other mesoamerican mythical creatures, and...
-a Slann-like frog race

One “slight” spanner in the works from the outset is that I’m currently pretty skint... haven’t started a new job yet, and just got walloped for a hefty car repair bill and so my planned purchases are on hold.

So for now, I’ll start with some terrain, as I have a substantial stockpile of materials to create some jungle.

All on board for this mate.

I like that you're doing your own 'thing' here and going off your own research into the cultures/mythology of Mesoamerica. Shaping your own 'world' like that is always really rewarding.

I've been doing a bits box clean out of late, if there's anything vaguely Aztec in there I'm happy to chuck it your way if you're UK based for postage?

A project right up my alley! While I have made no realistic progress towards my fantasy Mesoamerica project I have started gathering material.

For the budget minded Archon Studio has their Kazumi Temple stuff in their Rampart line. It is not as cheap as when it first came out and it requires some work to get the best out of it (ie you need to make your own roofs and floors) but it looks coolthentic.

I managed to get some very cheap on eBay a couple of times.

I like the sound of this. Recreating Game of Thrones 1:1 was clearly not enough!

 Nice start to the project.

Would the Warlord games plastic Indians be useful if mixed with the plastic Aztecs?Might give more options and poses.

My  Maya project has ground to a halt. If you've got some interesting swaps, and don't mind Maya instead of Aztec, I've got a pile of stuff you could have.

Nice! You’ll have to have a look at Paymaster Games, they do exclusively Native Americans.
