From what I recall, there was no standardised type, with various Mercedes Simplex models and others being used. Too bad you only bring it up now, since I own a Tankograd Publishing mook on the subject (actually, it´s about "Fahrzeugraritäten des Heeres und der Wehrmacht" from c.1900-1945, but the WW1 sections are the best part), which, unfortunately, is now lying in storage at my parents´ place in Germany.

From what I gathered from the pictures in the mook, you could either have them a greyish green or leave them as is, but as for the Daimler: style-wise, I´d say it´s perfectly ok to use such a car, but I would strongly suggest repainting it Feldgrau or greyish green/greenish grey as to make it look more "military". Maybe add a maps folder or some other nice details.

thx

I actually thought abot leavin it Yellow, for target runs  ;)
these germans are really boring, always grey.....

I think I will add luggage and maybe some MG mount
would You do the metal stuff grey too? I mean all grey?

If this is indeed a "landaulette", it seems that the british were using it as staff cars ;)

That sounds good. By adding the MG, you could also use it as an airfield security vehicle. Staff cars were (AFAIK) unarmed (except maybe for some rifles or carbines stowed for emergencies), but I wouldn´t mind seeing one with an MG, especially in contested areas.

By "field grey", I didn´t mean grey overall - sorry, should have made that clear. If I remember the photographs correctly, the fenders and stepping boards on the vehicles´ side were often left black. I would suggest just painting the yellow chassis grey, and maybe tone down the seats to a leathery brown. Keep the "metal bits" like they are, maybe add a gentle wash of very dark brown, followed by a drybrush with old gold or very light brass.

OK thx

so not "dulled down" entirely, but only the yellow body
maybe I do two versions, one with black and the other with grey step boards

Yep, the seats are too shiny - thought of brown or black
I'll paint the cars first and then check what looks better for the seats
have to take them out anyway
maybe a dulled down bordeaux isn't that bad with field grey

btw, it seems to be a 1911 Daimler 12hp four seater tourer

or something similar

I came across reference to the Mercedes Benz Torpedo and the Stoewer Tourer in use as staff cars.  As to availability as models...

thank You sir  :)

well looks pretty similar to many kinds of cars in use then

I'll see if I can grab one of these

the 1911 Daimler is a tourer too

but I guess I could take virtually any kind of car avilable at that time and press it into service, since it is about Russia 1918   ;)
the sprung tires are something different however....

could I expect Russian cars to be painted green or Khaki?
