Bedriften

The Cruiser Bedriften operates on a semi-independent basis since the Last War.

She is an interstellar cruiser with a crew of 68 Einherjar operating in the more remote areas of space to avoid the larger pirate fleets; the smaller ones pose no threat.

Commencing the 123rd Solar Day of the year 2347, her story will be told via her Captain’s Log.

Today we committed Captain Gunhild Bjorndottir to the heart of a star so she can make her way to Vallhal free of her worldly body.

I wish her well.

But now, as her chosen successor, I must turn my thoughts to the matters of the living, this valiant ship and her crew.

I have appointed Chief Engineer Svend Ageson as my Second; he is loyal, brave and resourceful. I have no concerns that he will not serve well and put the needs of the ship above his own.

Such could not be said of that weasel Suneson who I have placed in gaol. I could not tolerate him on my crew, let alone as my second in command; the Gods know what Bjorndottir was thinking.

The crew will do as it must and we continue to receive the support of the homeworld government, such that it is.

Our avowed mission remains; seek wealth, power and influence in the name of the Einherjar until such a day comes that we can destroy these upstart pirate power brokers and restore Assandon, the Blessed Homeworld, to it’s rightful place.

Torsten Njalson
Captain
Bedriften.

2347.131.11

We have intercepted a transmission between 2 pirate ships declaring Imperial Research Station 37 as a place of interest.

Navigation report that we can get to the station 3 Sol days ahead of any other ship.

I have given the order to proceed.

2347.133.02

We have arrived at the Station and scanners indicate that we will have at least 55 Sol hours before the fleets arrive, not as long as I hoped but we take what we are given.

Of concern are local scans which show evidence of activity on asteroids around the Station as well as the power emissions emanating from the Station its self in the absence of any life signs.

As is fitting Chief Ageson and I will lead the initial team.

I am completing this log entry remotely from a sealed room aboard the Research Station and will shortly be uploading some images from my personal combat droid observer.

We entered via the airlock as planned but the system didn’t hold, collapsing a large section of the ceiling and splitting our party into 2 groups.

I instructed Chief Ageson to push on through the Station until he could find means to move up onto Level 22.

We pushed on and finally found a room with 2 seemingly intact lifts on the opposite side.

As we entered the door closed behind us and the locking mechanism engaged making the lifts our only escape.

As we started to cross the floor we noted movement – Cybermen.

Some of these robotic beings were armed with weapons, others were simply workers, still deadly but only at close range.

This had just turned into an escape and evasion mission.

We battled out way across the room and finally made it to the closest lift as our hacker unlocked a data loot.. The operating mechanism was out of service but the systems were quickly over-ridden, surprisingly not by our specialist hacker but by a trooper named Torgenson.

As more and more Cybermen appeared we all entered the lift, calling for Torgenson to join us.

However he couldn’t reach us and was close to being mobbed.

Before we were all overrun Torgenson slammed the lift doors on us and we started to ascend as he turned back to give his life for us.

He will truly feast with the heroes this night.

We now await Ageson, I will give him 3 hours then move to the next level which should, if the schematics are accurate, move us closer to this Stations escape modules.

Images attached.

Praise all the Gods, Torgenson survived. He reports that he destroyed a number of Cybermen then climbed the lift shaft to our level.

Everything looks really great from the table to the miniatures. And as a (very) old Dr. Who fan great to see a Cybermen guest appearance. Thanks for sharing.
We haul ours to kick theirs.

Thank you folks, much appreciated.

I think we'll be seeing more of them as the crew make their way through the Research Station  ;)

We have received some transmissions from Bedriften and their scanners indicate power surges at the heart of the facility.

They also show that life support is shutting down from the outer sections towards the core – there will be no escape until these have been reinstated.

We must travel to the core of the Station and reinstate life support– I pray that Chief Ageson gets here soon.

2347.133.08

Ageson rendezvoused with us just as I was giving up hope, although his group appeared to have fared less well than mine.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt at this time and assume bad luck rather than bad leadership; a full review of his drone’s files will clear the matter later.

His verbal report and the few still images from the drone show that they entered a room not dissimilar to the one we fought across.

I now attach his report:-

‘We entered the lab from the South -West corner and immediately saw Cybermen, some making their way about their business normally, others in a more jerky, uncontrolled manner.

These Cybermen revealed one more difference – their power cells were glowing red rather than blue. At first we didn’t know what this meant but after shooting a couple it became apparent.

There was, upon sustaining damage, a good chance they would explode, damaging anything within 10 yards. We should proceed with caution.

As we made out way forward the sounds of electrical buzzing and the smell of short circuits was obvious, as was the force field that blocked the North-West corner of the laboratory.

Our course was clear, to move clockwise towards the exit to the North-East.

Over nearly 20 minutes we pushed forward only to be constantly thwarted by fluctuations in the force fields position and the generation of more Cybermen from ports in the walls.

We destroyed numerous enemies and managed to avoid all the bast damage from exploding robots until we were trapped by the field with 2 badly damaged ‘Reds’ with all of us sustaining injuries of varying severity.

All thoughts of seeking loot were forgotten and we pressed hard to escape dragging 2 unconscious troops along.

By the time the door was reached I was the only one standing. I slowly pulled all my team through protected by a fortunate force field, sealed the doors and checked the men.

2 were merely knocked out and made quick recoveries, however the Recruit and our new Chiseler are both badly wounded and will not be fully recovered as we move on.’

So not the best state but the Gods do as the Gods will.

All ten of us are still standing and we know what we have to do.

Thank all the Gods that that ordeal is over.

Scanners indicated that just a few levels further into the complex was a partially functioning transport system that could take us directly to the station’s central control module.

As we forged our way towards it life support closed behind; it’s almost as if the station itself wants us at it core and is giving us no option to retreat.

Entering a cargo bay with access to the train we noted a small number of Cybermen, very similar in appearance to the others but seemingly a little faster and more able.

They also turned out to have better defensive capabilities and were much tougher.

The fighting was intense and for every Cyberman we killed two more spawned from the production pods just beyond the tracks.

It took nearly 50 minutes to get to the train and out of there, only four of us escaping on the train, the others getting a service hatch which didn’t show on the original schematics.

As the last of us withdrew we counted over a dozen Cybermen approaching our position; 10 more minutes and we would have all been drinking with our ancestors.

We are not in good health though and, even with patching up from the doctor, three are quite seriously wounded and not particularly combat ready.

Again I must ask them to rest briefly, check their kit and prepare for battle.

It is what we Einherjar were born for.

Now we are safely returned to Bedriften I will write my account of our final hours on IRS 37.

We finally reached the central core of the station but could not enter due to another forcefield; we set the Hacker to work in breaching the defences whilst Chief Ageson and I observed and made plans.

To the centre of the room was a large computational area which seemed to contain a holographic image which we now know was the primary operating system for Station as well as the Cybermen– we dubbed her ‘Missy’.

She was protected by 4 unidentified Cybermen, a large robot which appeared to be currently inactive and 4 of the standard Cybermen we had encountered earlier.

The room also contained four Cyber Spawning Pods, three exit doors and numerous items of interest spread among the machines.

Our initial plan was to grab some loot, get to the exits and get back to Bedriften, but as the Hacker completed his work her crew called to report that the central computer had been compromised and they were dead in the water.

Worse, a Cybership was preparing to launch from the Station.

Destroying Missy became essential for the Bedriften to survive.

We planned to lure the guards away from the hologram, activate the Emergency EMP and, if possible, escape.

If escape proved impossible then I would be the shortest serving Captain she had ever had.

Entry to the room was difficult as the force field was sporadic in it’s operation – we got through as and when we could, sometimes singly, sometime a few of us.

5 of us initially got through before it reactivated and it took 3 cycles before all of us were in the room.

By this time the Spawning Pods had deposited numerous Cybermen and we were fighting a losing battle.

Our junior Chiseler, Aelson, headed into the central computer room while we engaged the 14 or so Cybermen, where he quickly unlocked the EMP and made good his escape. I have entered his name into the log for commendation and intend to promote him forthwith to the rank of Casecracker.

With this task completed we abandoned all thoughts of collecting loot and begin a tactical withdrawal to the nearest exits, losing 2 valiant crewmen to the Cybers.

Escape pods were located and fired then I gave the honour of activating the EMP to Aelson.

We all watch as the Station went dark – it rankles that our sacrifices will make looting the place easier for the incoming pirates, but that is how the dice have fallen.

Returning to Bedriften it transpired that Chief Ageson had been concealing a grave injury, a crushed arm, which will impede his hand to hand combat in the future.

He laughed this off, stating ‘ I’ll just have to improve my shooting’; knowing Svend he will indeed improve his shooting, I also expect him to work to regain lost melee skills and improve his innate powers too.

Now that full systems checks are nearly completed I prepare to head to the Phoenix Quadrant to seek some lucrative work for us, we could certainly use the coin and we don’t want our skills to rust.
