Hammer's building thread
« on: October 10, 2009, 08:33:42 AM »
Hrm, hum... Well since no one else seems inclined to begin:

What to build..., What to build...
Unfortunately the rules don't allow for continuing on a already existing project. I have about five laying around in various degrees of completion of which one I would have liked to take this opportunity to do just that. Oh, well, the idea of the competition is very appealing so I'll have to add just another project to the pile. Again.

I think I have to settle on something for my ongoing NWF project. Is it still a project when it spans over a couple of years without a clear goal other than "It'd be cool to have a NWF board"? Maybe one should talk of 'periods' instead, they way art critics do, "Picasso's Blue Period" and so on, since it its governed by what you are inspired and interested in... "Hammers NWF period is recognized by it's multitude of miniatures and array of incomplete scenere. The word "sprawlingness" come to mind...'

What was I talking about before? Lost it... Ah!: A project fro NWF. The theme is sort of one-size-fits-all: transportation. It is so broad it almost makes it harder to pick something. The rope bridge I started last winter is almost complete so it's out of question. So is the mudbrick Pathan fort where almost all pieces are cut and fitted. The gun trench is hardly started except for the wicker baskets and the base so that *might* be considered OK. But it is hardly transportation is it? This means the planned mud brick houses and ruins also don't qualify.

The only thing I can come to think of right which qualify and which I have had in mind for NWF is my rather whimsical idea for the 13th Gurkha Rifles (Duke of Nutherland's Own) Ambulating Officers Mess based on a Ford chassis. It would at least be different.

Oooooh.
Might be out of the question for you, but sound like jolly good ideas to me  ;)
A rope bridge.... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... I could use one of those.

Just got remembered another idea I've had for my NWF board: a serpentine road on a mountain side through terraced rice fields. That should pass for 'transportation' to, right? I mean if a bridge does...

Some thing like this (Mansehra Distric, NWFP):

By the way and apropos nothing: I am cooking stuffed bear steak tonight. Our Canadian friend may be able to answer this: do I need to kill the bear before I stuff it and shove it in the oven?

I think the old adage about dead bears and their pelts may come in handy here as a rule of thumb. If you wish to keep your thumbs, that is. And the hands. And arms.

That's a rather stunning photo you've got there  :o I should think it would qualify, maybe the addition of a supply truck or some such will do the trick.

No problem.  I included roads in the original announcement:

It is a deliberately open category covering just about any type of vehicle from train to submarine to airship.  Additionally any buildings connected to transportation, such as a train station, dockside, hangar, Stargate etc are acceptable. In theory you could even submit a road, river or bridge.  This should allow almost everyone to come up with an entry regardless of their own specific interests.

I don't think the bear would mind the stuffing too much but it may have objections to being shoved in the oven! If you've found a way of doing that without killing it, please let everyone else into your secret!

Don't know why, I can see it fine.

Here's another one, but without a road:

I just dug up another idea among the potato sacks and rusty garden tools in the murky depths of my mind. When I did my silly DNKCM I at some point thought it'd be nice to do some gaming with them. It took me a while to come up with proper antagonists but figured the rather conservative club must clash with some rather uncouth characters. I came up with the idea of a loose gang of Irish pikies, Welsh gypsies and other modern nomads setting up camp in the Monimasket commons where the honourable club walk their dogs.

Having seen he second season of 'Carnivale'  I am thinking a mobile camp with Girly Show, paris wheel platform, gypsy fortune teller caravan, a bare-knuckled-fisticuffmanship-ring-onna-truck, a truck with stolen church copper plate roofing...

It's not NWF, but I feel the stakes has been raisen by JB so I am considering it. Whadda you say, Overlord? Is a Carnival caravan transportation? :)
