Good game. Mark still has some creases to iron out.

I was in command of a large Berglander force that had to take a Slovskan coal mine and cut off a railway line.

I sent the elite Mountain Troops over the rocky crag head one, and the tanks on the left flank to cut the railway line and roll up the Slovskan right.

The Mountain troop performed well, but got entangled in a close assault for the mine complex into which the Slovskan reinforcements poured into.

The tanks rolled over the Slovskan support weapons to take the railway line, but then found out Infantry had to cut the railway line (DOH). The tanks attacked, and were both knocked out, but I force marched an Infantry Company over the ridge to cut the line.

Victory for Bergland. Now dig in for the counter attack.

It was. I didn't mention the random event cards guaranteed to mix things up, the playing card activation system that ruins your best plans at that crucial moment (equivalent to rolling a 1 in DBA) and off table HQ where you pen your POWs

How quick do they paint up?
In the retro style, I wonder, as I have terrible painting skills yet these look doable.

As quick as you like. You can shade them, but Mark's idea is you paint them one colour (no shading) and gloss varnish.

oh my goodness - that is just the perfect look with the varied shades of squares.  :-*

would never have thought of it (love the Mondrian comment - although it hadn't evoked that for me).

Yes, the terrain is very apt. :D

For me it seems to be a little faster to paint these up.

On regular figures I prime white then block paint, do touch ups and then shade with a wash.  Sometimes I'll highlight.

With these I used the Army Painter colored primers as the base coat. I'm more careful with painting the equipment and do need to touch up the main color.

The first batch I primed white and then painted the uniforms which took two coats and still has some uneven spots.

The colored primer really helps. I've ordered some of the Vallejo sprays to give variety.

The table and figures have a very H.G. Wells, The Wargame look to them.

Wave 4 I think will be released Feb. Here's a look at the character pack that's part of Wave 4.
