peninsular war buildings to fit with 18mm napoleonics
« on: June 06, 2022, 08:00:39 PM »
I've read various opinions re what should fit - down scale 10mm for battles same size 15mm for skirmish

but does anyone have any photo examples?

Particularly interested in the 15mm Hovel range but also the timecast 10mm but open to any suggestions

trying to pick the best compromise as I want to build a village or two that fit both a skirmish and big battle table

You could always scratch-build it. Much cheaper for a whole village.
If you don't want to, others (myself included) would make it for you.

That's a nice idea and maybe something for the future but I think the investment in tools, materials and time would make it expensive

It may well be a journey I consider in the future but at the moment I'd rather either a kit I could put together or a few ready made buildings I could use

I'm wondering how the MDF empires at war buildings scale - I quite like the idea of being able to remove the roof and place mini's inside

Going down a scale, from 15 mm to 10 mm, can work for battle level games but tends to be a personal preference choice.  Hovels buildings for 15 mm do tend to be a bit on the smaller side already within my experience.  My preference is to stay with 15 mm buildings for 15 mm figures.

On the skirmish level, there is another option - going "big" such as using Bluemoon's 15/18 mm buildings with lift off roofs.  Not sure how much they have specific to the Napoleonic era but certainly much that can be readily adapted.  The larger buildings - perhaps big enough to even use with 20 mm figures - provides more "finger" room for placing figures inside the buildings.

Sorry, no photos but if you can find early issues of Wargames Illustrated - through say issue 60 or so - you can find lots of images of Hovels 15 mm buildings with figures, not every issue of course but I doubt you'd have to through more than a years worth of issues to find some.
