Who remembers Megablitz!
« on: June 22, 2022, 06:53:20 PM »
Who recalls this game? Written in 2002 I think, and published by my old chum Duncan Mcfarlane (RIP), it was a game of divisional WW2 warfare. I took a picture of the intro from the book, attached below. It's been out of print for a decade or more.

I was moving some filing from 2006 around last week, and I found 1/2 a box of them. How bizarre!

I put them on sale last week and they've nearly all gone, if you've not seen it before grab a piece of wargaming history.

More than just a piece of history, it is still an exceptionally good set of "Operational" level wargame rules.
There is a small active support group on iO.

I had a copy - couldn’t really get my head around it as a game - sold it on fairly recently.

I had a copy, but the rules had so many holes they were almost unplayable; I suspect they were fine if you had an experienced player to guide you.
Just some examples of things I never got answers to:
1. What is the range of Recce? It’s not specified anywhere and when I asked the author I got a very vague answer.
2. How close can you move to enemy without combat? The rules give no clue, and as it stands you can whizz between two enemy formations if your unit fits, but that doesn’t seem right at all.
Lots of nice ideas, but not well explained.
I find Rommel scratches the same itch, but is a much better set of rules
