Here goes:

Hereby I take  the opportunity to finally finish my Orlik construction project.

Disclaimer:
All pictures not property of the author shown here and in the link are used for refence only, no copyright infringement is intended

I will not post every picture here, so here is the link:
http://s886.photobucket.com/albums/ac61/former user_the_anarchist/build%20something/

I will not attempt to build a historically accurate "Orlik", but something that resembles the original but is also usable for steampunk etc.

The Orlik I have in mind contains the following components:
- OV armoured locomotive
- Tender
- 2 Khunkhuz artillery cars
- Zaamuretz armoured rail cruiser

Loco and tender have already been started, so will not be part of the entry and shown elsewhere.
The Khunkhuz artillery wagon was made for the tsarist army, but also used in many variations throughout the RCW. I chose the basic variant, simply to be able to use it in the great war too.

The armoured rail cruiser Zaamuretz was also built for the tsarist army, but was later on used in many conflicts as late as the chinese civil war. Many conversions were performed on this unique piece of eqipment, and from the pictures I saw these seem to differ a bit from the story as outlined in Osprey's "armoured trains".

The building materials will include many scrap bits and other stuff, which I will not list here, so please feel free to ask. here is a sample of material I recently made a picture of:

I shall be very anxious if I will manage to finish in time for the entry

yes, the Zaamuretz is one hell of an sexy armoured train
and far before it's time too, technically
surprised noone gave it a try before (apart from the resin model)

I hope I shall be able to match it  ;)

Don't forget to populate it with plenty of ragged "passengers." ;)

I don't even know if I'm going to enter this contest, or for that matter what I'd make. Already am in two different contests plus I just started making a retro-future Neo-Sov army and a squad of IG veterans. Hmm, maybe an armored transport or a mobile fortress...

I would love to know what the clear plastic boxes are and how they fit in.

I would love to know what the clear plastic boxes are and how they fit in.

these are storage boxes for small stuff
since I build mostly in Acrylic glass, the boxes will be cut up to pieces to provide a construction skeleton and reinforce 90° angles
plexi is cheap and durable, but a bit complicated to glue.
Besides, You can use all kinds of containers that you usually would throw away
damaged CD and Cassette boxes, Q-tip containers (those with rounded edges are from Ferrero candies)
they are quite easy to use, since they break along a scratched ridge
once glued along flat surfaces, you can literally throw them against a wall and they will hold
if You want to unglue them, You only need to aplly some Acetone and they will immediately separate (which is not possible with plasticcard, since the surface would be stained)
depending on which brand You use, they are glued with modelling plastic glue or Dichlomethane

comes from my experience with building architectural models

That is one of the most intriguing vehicles ever - I encountered it thanks to the Osprey book you mentioned.
Looking forward to see it built - someone pass the popcorn please  8) 8) 8)

Ditto here but mainly in Maltese - still no purple heart for me, though   ;)

OK

biggest question: how to do the spherical/ovoid gun turrets??

after some unsuccessfull attempt with a plastic egg (these ... fornicating spherical objects are really hard to saw straight, outch) - no pics here

I decided to do it the other way round and build them up on these plastic spheres

so, next thing is to cut the firing slits

and here's the result:
both Khunkhuz gun cars, featuring carriage and turret

the spheres are rather thin and frail, so I reinforced the top with a ring to help with the pivot hole

maybe I'll reinforce the slit too
