Stargrave and Rangers of Shadow Deep
« on: July 04, 2022, 10:14:46 AM »
Hello fellow lafers, so I’ve been thinking about the solo rules for Stargrave and ROSD and whether the 2 of them could be mashed together to create a more RPG style solo sci-fi adventure. Not the mission/story arc from ROSD but more the idea of a Godfather/Goodfellas/Necromunda/Mos Eisley mash up. You start as a low level crook with a small crew and are working your way up to the top of the criminal pile, every character in your crew can gain advances (like companions in ROSD) and scenarios would include bank jobs, smuggling runs and of course gang fights. Doing something like this is a new thing for me and wondered what other peoples take on it would be?

Might be easer to reskin a mobster game like "We Only Kill
Each Other". But I don't see why you couldn't pick and choice what rules from ROSD and SG that you like for a solo game.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

The system of Rangers of Shadow Deep can easily be adapted for the setting you want. I'm using it in solo for a sort of Rogue Trader-like universe, so I think you will have no problem with your background.

Have you tried Solo missions that were published as freebie when the game was released?

Sounds interesting.

Thanks for the replies guys. I do like the dead or alive solo rules but am looking to add more variation to the scenarios objective. Warehouse raids, hijackings etc. I’ve had a few ideas which I’m still mulling over but any ideas/hints/tips you smart gaming people have are more than welcome 🙏

Also, it may be interesting for you to have a rule for the mob, like a random event.
