Beastmen figures/proxies
« on: July 07, 2022, 07:09:19 AM »
Any suggestions for GW beastman proxies (not interested in 3D prints)?

Either plastic, metal or, at a push, resin.
cheers

Frostgrave gnolls are an obvious option, along with Frostgrave demons.

GW Ungor arms work well with the gnolls, which indicates how interchangeable they are:

There are some gnolls with GW heads among this lot:

The demon heads are quite a good way to create instant beastmen out of pretty much anything - lots of spares on the sprue.

Oh - and Frostgrave snakemen too! There's one with a Kroot head in the photo above, and the Iron Mitten blog has some great kitbashed Fomorians using snakemen bodies.

With the gnoll, demon and snakemen sprues and a decent bits box, you'd be able to create a pretty diverse bunch of beastmen very easily.

Crusader Miniatures recently released some beastmen. They are named Brood Slaves and come in several packs see below. DGS Games has some hard-plastic Fauns that might be of interest. Think Fenris Games also has some cool ones in Runequest style. Then also Alternative Armies' classic warriors see below, think they have two packs.

Reaper Bones do some pretty decent beastmen (one shown below).

Also, the Mantic ratkin sprue is good source of hunched, bestial bodies (also below), even if you don't like the ratty heads (though they're quite generically bestial - they look like mustelids or canines as much as rats!). They'd take snakemen or Ungor heads readily, or gnoll heads without much effort:

Oh - and the Mantic Lower Abyssals are Ungor-sized:

It might also be worth looking at the Mantic salamander, nightstalker and naiad sprues - plenty of beastliness there, and good opportunities to mix and match.

If you combined all of the suggestions so far, you'd end up with a gloriously chaotic army!

Great thread. I've been wondering about this myself.

It does make one question why no one besides GW has done a plastic Beastmen kit.  We've got a plethora of Orcs, Halflings, goblins and even lizardmen.

Why no kit for goat people?

This range from CP Models could add quite a bit of variety.

Citadel/GW beastmen used to be wonderfully diverse (in line with their Moorcockian and Gloranthan antecedents):

Those were the days ...
