Don's Silver Bayonet in 40mm
« on: July 08, 2022, 10:53:19 PM »
I have to admit... I am a big fan of Mr. McCulloughs rules and setting ideas....  ;D
Frostgrave is an all time favorite of mine and I really enjoyed a lot of games.
When I heard of the idea of a napoleonic horror skirmish game I was instantly hooked.

I bought a ton of minis and started to paint tsrait away.... :)

But after I finished my austrians I felt somehow exausted. Just getting the minis out of the blister and painting them felt a little dull...
Dont get me wrong... the minis are excellent. Great sculpts., full of character.

But I wanted to do something more of my own.

And I remebered that I had a small stock of 40mm Peninsular models from the Perrys.
Just enough to get 2 Gangs together... ;)

To find suitable minis for all the monsters would be a bigger task.

Okay, here are a few pics.
First a comparison shot: 28mm-Mini Original Silver Bayonet, a 40mm-Peninsular figure and a Border-Reiver by the twins in 40mm.

The first days were full of greenstuff work to get a few Frenchies togehter...

And Reaper Bones turned out to be perfect as 40mm monsters... ;)

As Goblins I took the original SB 28mm-goblins. For me they look the part.

A stonetroll and a camel, wich was brought from egypt... also Bones.

A Perry monk turned into an evil cultist, infantryman and a dromedary-trooper...

Okay. Stay tuned for a few colour pics... :)

Cheers,
Don

Loving this, such. Great idea.

Thanx for your kind comments....;)

Here are a few more pics of some painted models.

First my british gang. Led by an officer how has a fencing weapon of silver and a hand weapon.

The minis are heavily greenstuffed .... :)

A few more brits and a sinister cultist.
The monk serves as a native scout. My games will be playing out in Italy or Spain. So a local could be seen... tongue in cheek ... as a native... ;)

A few monsters. A giant wolf, a ghost (horse) and a ghoul or revenant.
French for size...

And some goblins.

The French: Doctor, Artillery-man, Vivandiere and the Sappeur.

Still more stuff on the workbench... ;)

I love the fact that I have limited ressources of minis in 40mm. Digging through the leed pile for scraps of usable 40mm-stuff is soo rewarding... :)

Cheers,
Don

Thanx for your comments gents.... :)

I did a few more additions to the monster side of the Silver Bayonet.
First a big stone troll (reaper bones) for the troll under the bridge scenario.

A death head hussar. Not on the monser list. But I though it would be a good idea. Sleepy Hollow and such...

The french dromedar, the french doc and a ghoul.

Still more monsters... ;)

4 bandits.
...on the left are 3 perry miniatures, the guy on the right is a plastic Aragorn from he old Combat-Hex game, with some minor greenstuff additions. Prepainted rubber...but in 40mm.... :)

And I started with some scenery for these 40mm games.
First a bridge for the Troll under the bridge scenario.

Still not satisfied with the paintjob yet. Need to add sone more washes.

Stay tuned... :)

Cheers,
Don
