Admirals,

Can I have suggestions for alternative minis to the ones by Brigade, please?

Thanks

I assume you don't have a warehouse to game in so MDF 28mm ranges are probably out.

There's the old Space1889 Sky Galleons of Mars but as long OOP a bit pricey and scarce given a recent resurgence in the idea.

What scale are you ideally after?

Leviathans has a range you can use from Catalyst Game Labs but they are hard to track down right now.

Irregular has a range of aeronefs but they are hard to find on the site.

You can also use the GHQ Micronauts range, but place them on flying stands.

Edit: I almost forgot the Dystopian Wars range from Warcradle studios.

Finally, many people use 3D printed options, scratch built options, and just paper templates as well.

If you look at the ones Wessex games used originally, it's obvious they used model plane bombs and rockets, 'half shell' for a number of non-digs.

You have to deck then add stuff that looks like guns and superstructure. Though I'm supplied with a even ten thumbs, it can still be fun to dink around.

Taking miniature ships as EE suggests, and trying to add hull, maybe the above, or appropriate plastic cutlery/disposable razor/whathaveyou handles, is something I am also dinking.

I put a link to the Irregular ships here somewhere, brain fog, but I THINK it's under 6mm on a page with the spaceships.

If it's up your alley, some forum members are also cooking up 3d printable options as we speak.  :D

Look at you toot YOUR horn, will you!

Just teasing, as a toot or seven is appropriate, though I will say that I hear the 3D print drum at home enough as it is. Status isn't quite the 'home appliance' level to allow for my admitted ten thumbs.

And don't get me started on 3D graphics packages.

Leviathans coming back via KS this August. Looks like you’ll be able to buy the models separately.

I'm making my own - hulls out of wooden coffee stirrers and superstructures of upturned Lego guns.

I had scratchbuilt naval fleets and flyers way back when for the Spanish-American War campaign scenario in Ironclads & Ether Flyers using bits of bass wood and plastic, quick and fun little projects!

So far so good, yeah.  I have all but two battleships ready for water service, I just need to figure out what gribblies to add to make them fly.

Looks like that Leviathans Kickstarter has launched and doing pretty well, for anyone looking for pre painted ships.

Irregular miniatures 6mm aeronef fleets can be found here: https://irregularminiatures.co.uk/

Go to the Spaceship and Sci-fi 6mm section.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see them.....

Also, you could get really aggressive and also use GHQ Great War kits and put them on flying stands too...

I've seen people make some pretty cool looking airships by taking 2 identical dystopian wars boats and gluing them bottom to bottom.

Dystopian wars has a number of airships already though, worth mentioning as well!

Yes, I have used a few of those myself.

I used the American blimps as merchantmen in the convoy scenario in the Castles in the Sky book.

You can read all about it here:
http://bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/2021/03/battle-report-castles-in-sky-off-gold.html

I also own the Prussian smaller and larger Zep, but I have mostly used those for Aeronautica Imperialis.  I should break them out to play some Castles in the Sky with them.  I think I would have enough for a Battleship, and two Cruisers, and 4 Escorts or so?  That is enough for a Raid mission!
