“The nomad horsemen of the steppes - masters of the green grass seas that stretches for unimaginable distances east of the civilized world, their myriad names are whispered with fear.”
This thread is going to contain my pseudo-historical “eastern steppe warriors” force for games like Lion Rampant, SAGA or the like – lore-wise I guess they could be anything from 'realistic' LOTR Easterlings to Witcher Haak warriors and everything in between. I’m going to base this force on the medieval Seljuq, Arab and Armenian ranges from Perry, with some subtle conversions here and there to get the “steppish” look I’m after.
Ironically - first off is a couple of dismounted elite swordsmen, I imagine these guys being the bodyguard of the Warlord – loyal, fierce and selected among the best warriors of the tribe. As you can see they are based on the Seljuq/Arab dismounted cavalry figures, just filed down one of the turbans and added some fur. I opted for a tan/red color scheme with goldish bronze details and later on, armor since I think it’s pretty striking and fits my personal vision of “steppe warriors”.
I'm currently working on three more dismounted warriors as well as six horsemen with spears – based on Perry’s mounted Seljuqs.
Anyway, stay tuned for more – the Warlord himself, a Shaman/sorcerer of sorts, tribal swordsmen, dismounted tribal archers/hunters and of course – HORSE ARCHERS! 😊
