So I should be launching the lightweight and (hopefully) fun Build Something Small Competition soon enough; I am going to try out a set of parameters for the build (sizes, parts, etc.) and we'll see how it goes, and if it's successful we can tweak it for future edition. In the meantime I made a trial run for a project I am working on (no, this will not be my entry of course).
The parts:
I included the entire floor tile for scale - each side is 25 cm.
The main component is the transformer and bit holder of a deceased soldering gun.
There are a couple of light bulb fittings, and an old plastic petri dish; four old capacitors from scavenged circuit boards, a grey plastic object of unknow origin, some bit of packaging I guess; an Ad Mech scenery bit which looks like a cross between an air filter and a hair dryer (!); and a couple of caps from some adhesive or something. I also used a scrap of plasticard to close one end of the grey plastic object.
Here are some views of the assembled device:
Undercoated in brown (of all colours)...
This wasn't a planned build, I was just getting rid of the old soldering iron and thought I might use some of the bits. The outer, plastic casing will make a nice 1:1 ray gun
So this is an idea of what the BSSC (Build Something Small Competition) would produce, except that you lot will obviously do far, far better.
Will launch by the end of this week, I hope.
