Absolutely inspiring paint jobs and game!

Is there any recommended reading to look at for starting this period?

This will help get you started Andy.  The books you wanted are now very expensive.

Cheers guys, trying Carlists again but on a larger scale with General De Brigade in a few weeks.

For books the Conrad Cairns book is the ideal but also All Honour is Lost by Kings Carbine highly recomended. Steves Balagan site shared by OB is a great free resource.

Both mine and OB's blogs will give you plenty of background on building an army if you look back in the history too.

I thought it might be useful to list the manufacturers who make figures for the First Carlist War here.

In 25mm Lancashire Games

https://www.lancashiregames.com/lg/25mm-carlist-wars.html

In 15/18mm These two:

For bigger scales the Perry Brothers have a nice range.  There may be others too.

Mine are (I think) exclusively Perrys, even the conversions are Perry Napoleonics. Empress Maori wars will be useful as British in 28mm. Some of the Iron Duke British for India would also be useful as Portuguese.

Thanks for the links and suggestions, believe I am going to go with Perrys mainly due to playing 28mm mostly (haven’t delved into the glorious realm of 15mm yet!)

Doing my initial reading I am primarily interested in creating a themed skirmish (Sharp practice) as well around the forces of Zumalacárregui and the Navarre region. Naturally I’ve gravitated towards Carlists to start because well….those uniforms are just fantastic?

I did see mentioned some Sharp Practice lists on a old Yahoo Group but do not seem to have access to this. Would anyone be kind enough to share? No problems if not I can have a go at making some after more research.

The book attached seems like a good read based on my interests, anyone had a read of this at all?

Also please keep the battle reports coming!

Cheers
Andy

Im afraid I havent read that one.

I didnt use exclusively Carlist War lists, mainly because it was just easier and one side was French anway so have the FFL as French grenadiers seemed to work.
