French Indochina STCAN/FOM
« on: March 05, 2014, 01:15:14 AM »
As we're getting ready for our 20th year of the HotLead Convention in Stratford, Ontario, I'm finishing off a few projects to run a French Indochina game in 28mm. One of the projects was to finally finish my French STCAN/FOM patrol boat. Its the old rag boat from the 1/48 Monogram "Rambo Assault Set", with Warlord Games crew and various tarps, boxes, etc added to give it a more cluttered and lived in look. The kit is easy to assemble and needed just a little extra work. As a gaming piece, its pretty impressive. It has an armoured (ie bullet-proof) hull with a front .50 cal in an armoured turret, and 3 light mgs (one on each side sponson and a top turret) as well. Two of the crew (6-8 crew usually) were also armed with rifle grenades. If I wanted to go all out, I could have  mounted either a .30 cal or a 57mm recoilless rifle on the front pilot house, and replaced the top turret mg with a 60 mm mortar. As is, it definitely provides an interesting challenge to both use and face in a game.

Sorry, I seem to be overly fond of one of the photos. Here are the other two.

Great pics, great looking boat and terrain. I would love to play French Indochine especially with 28mm (those Redstar minis are incredible), post some more pics and eventually pics of the games.

Cheers,
 Damien

Nice job. How difficult was it to cut the hull to the waterline?

That looks great!

With what rule-set will you be playing Indochine?
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

That looks superb! I too am curious on how easy or hard it was to waterline.

Awesome! Love the boat. I actually considered buying the model myself.

Apologies for the thread necromancy 🧟‍♂️ but this thread inspired me to pick up one of those kits on eBay and advice on how to do the waterline would certainly be appreciated.
