The World Turned Upside Down - More Royalist Regiments
« on: July 23, 2022, 02:07:51 PM »
A War of Three Kingdoms project, started a while back with Bicorne Miniatures and after the usual ‘oh look shiny’ moment/s has been kick-started again by Bloody Miniatures.  First off, rebellious rogues of the Parliamentary foot:

The Blue Regt of the London Trained Bands leed by Captain Arthur Smith:

Sir Andrew Hamilton’s Regiment of Foot:

The Green Regt of the London Trained Bands commanded by Captain Hal Cruttenden:

Major Kenneth Williams Regt of Foot:

complete with embarrassing close-up:

Rules will be either Pikeman’s Lament or Victory Without Quarter for mass battles and the sabot basing is so they can be used for smaller skirmish games with Fistful of Lead.

More to follow shortly.

Very nice- I've returned to the ECW, too, it's great to be back. I'd love to tackle the trained bands.

Lovely start to the collection - very nice paint work 👍.  Great idea to single base, then use sabots, and so have figures for multiple types of games.

Thanks chaps, now the rest of the Parliament's men (and hopefully a few more good choices of names ;)).

William Bailey’s Regt of Foot defending the soft cover as usual:

While leaving their pike exposed:

Sir Thomas Cooper’s Regt of Foot:

I have a feeling that the black coated gentleman looks rather like the MP for Cambridge, a certain Mr Cromwell - which is handy as one of the skirmish game ideas I have concerns that gentleman’s potential first ever action:

And with this notable preacher I attempted a slightly bibulous look:

And finally Sir Anthony Aloysius St John Hancock’s Regt of East Cheam Foot:

and another embarrassing cloe-up (seems I need to add an eyeball or two):

That should finish the Parliamentary foot……… or does it?

I'm not sure the Parliamentary foot is 'finished' because I was having a little think about the pike bases - would they look better being bigger?

So, opinions sought.  Do the units look better with:

Base A - as-is 6 men:

Base B - 9 men:

Base C - 10 men (but a little less ordered):

Base D - 10 men (less ordered but a little wider):

I personally prefer nine men.

New additions are looking good  :)

Nice additions 👍.  I would go for the 9 man option as I think the pike bock looks better in its ranks and files.  Perhaps with the command at the front?

I would go with 12 figures.
That way you can use them for Pikemen's Lament.
That would make them one unit.
Also I see your shooters are 12 figures, perfect match for PL.

I was planning to halve the pike casualties when using LR with a 6 man pike base unit but TBH I’m leaning into Victory Without Quarter as my go-to rules:
https://www.scribd.com/document/564532640/Victory-Without-Quarter-Rules

Club games seem to use For King and Parliament but the advantage of the sabot basing is that it’s infinitely flexible so I can adapt to that as necessary.
