Lord of the Rings in 1/72 scale. Rangers of Gondor.
« on: July 27, 2022, 09:45:39 PM »
Hi,
I'm just in the middle of a project for LOTR in 1/72 mainly thanks to the fantastic miniatures from Dark Alliance. This scale brings me memories when I was a child so I'm having a lot of fun with it lately now that I'm getting old!

I decided to start with Orcs and Rohirrims but Rohirrims on foot do not exist so I picked a box of Zvezda Vikings.

Dark Alliance has Rohirrim on horse:

Now Orcs, all of them from Dark Alliance as well

Some Warg riders

A couple of Trolls. They come four in a box and there are several different boxes.

A comparative shot

I've also started to paint some characters; these are from Caesar:

Now some pics of them in action

Cheers,

These are all fantastic my favourite would have to be the Zvezda Vikings but then their miniatures are incredible and a joy to paint.

Those Zvezda Vikings match perfectly! It’s awesome to see others working with 1/72. Cheers!

What ruleset are you using here?

Yes, I love Zvezda minis, I think they are the best in the market but the Rohirrim cavalry by Dark Alliance is an excellent box too.

Yes, I've rediscovered this scale and I think I'm going to stick to it for a while because I love it. I'm using a solo battle rulebook called Warrior Heroes Warbands by Two Hour Wargames, now being sold by Rebel Minis, but with some add ons on my own.
You can see a few reports in my blog: https://javieratwar.blogspot.com/2022/02/orcs-invasion.html

Great looking armies - 1:72nd seems to be becoming quite popular for large scale battles

Tremendous! Really great paintwork - especially on the Vikings, as others have said. I really like the colour scheme on those trolls too.

Yes, the Orc rabble was black spray painted and then drybrushed but the vikings got much love and effort. Thank for your kind words; I publish these pictures after seeing your magnificent painted Orcs in another thread.

Thank you. I think it has always been popular but maybe it's a new thing in Fantasy as there weren't figures for that before.
Cheers,
