Metallic Paints
« on: August 08, 2022, 10:02:10 PM »
I just picked up some new metallic paints at Historicon and finally had the opportunity to use them.  They are from a small company called Huge Miniatures (hugeminis.com).  The paints are thick and I blended with water getting wonderful coverage and the metallic bits are very fine.  If you're looking for some different paints for your mail and plate, you might give them a try.  I don't know these guys at all, so this is not a marketing thing for someone that I know, I was just very impressed.

Thanks  -  Allen

Do you have some pictures of your brushwork with the new paints that you might consider sharing please?

I'm always on the lookout for new paints.

I'm an embarrassingly bad painter, but I will take a picture of the knight that I just painted and post it.  Please just look at the finish of the metals and ignore the paint job....

Thanks. BTW, please don't feel shy about posting pics of your work. LAF is really not the kind of forum where people are critical; unless asked for of course :)

Here are a couple of photos.  I really like the iron color (the dark one)  it reminds me of the old Ral Partha Steel which I have had a hard time duplicating with other paints.  These photos are before any highlighting or wash to show the actual paint before any additional work.

Your painting skills are more than adequate - you have done a good job on the knight, especially the freehand on the shield; not a lot of people have the courage and skill to do that.

The metallics look good - they seem to cover well.

Hear, hear. Better than my painting, although that's admittedly not saying much! Nice and crisp.
Thanks for indicating the metals - you're right about the darker one, it does look good, and they do seem to coat well.
Did you use a black undercoat?

Thank you for the kind words.  I used Citadel wraith bone.  I then made my first attempt with speed paints from Army Painter.  I have used the contrast paints quite a bit so had a feel for how to used these.
